About the role

Change the way the world travels Join the GetYourGuide journey to connect people with unforgettable travel experiences around the world. Millions look to us for unique activities they can trust, and it’s all powered by our commitment to make every single journey extraordinary - including yours. Ready to unlock your potential with a community of fellow explorers? Find your next role at our Berlin HQ or one of our local offices around the globe, from New York to Bangkok. Head to getyourguide.careers to take the first step. Team mission Marketplace Economics is a new team at GetYourGuide, built to answer the questions that determine how our marketplace grows and how it should be designed. How much revenue does the next euro of paid search actually return? Which marketing channels are genuinely incremental, and which are taking credit for demand we already had? What price should a supplier set, what does a change in commission do to supply, demand, and liquidity, and how should our ranking and supplier incentives be structured in the first place? We are a senior team working directly with leadership across Marketing, Pricing, and Supply, among others, and the decisions we inform are among the largest the company makes. On the causal inference side, we draw on tools like experimental design, natural and quasi-experiments, double machine learning, synthetic controls, and more to inform marketing attribution and incrementality, spend allocation, and price elasticity. Our structural work models demand, supply, and the mechanisms connecting them, so we can reason about equilibrium outcomes and simulate counterfactuals we can't run as experiments. Most of our hardest problems in pricing and market design need both. Your mission You'll be a technical lead for pricing and supply and a core contributor to our marketplace measurement work. Reporting to the Director of Marketplace Economics, you will: • Own the economics of pricing end to end: estimate travel demand and willingness to pay, build the structural models that turn those estimates into defensible price recommendations for our supply partners, and run the experiments that validate them. • Work collaboratively with other economists on paid marketing optimization problems across channels and geographies and funnel stages. • Work on the design of the marketplace itself; commission and incentive structures, inventory coverage, supply liquidity. • Partner closely with business leads in Marketing, Pricing, and Supply by translating ambiguous commercial questions into reasonable identification strategies that drive meaningful business outcomes. • Set the technical bar for empirical rigor at GetYourGuide: raise the quality of experiment design across teams, mentor analysts and data scientists. Your toolkit • PhD in Economics, or a closely related quantitative discipline with a strong applied focus. • 5+ years of applied work after your PhD, including 2+ years at a marketplace or platform company. • Comfort with structural work: discrete choice and demand estimation, equilibrium and counterfactual simulation, and the industrial organization or market design toolkit for reasoning about mechanisms, incentives, and two-sided platform dynamics. • Expertise in causal inference: experimental design, difference-in-differences, synthetic control, regression discontinuity, double/debiased ML, and Bayesian approaches to media measurement. • The judgment to choose between these approaches for the problem in front of you, and to say clearly what each one can and cannot support. • Strong Python and SQL, and comfort working with production-scale data alongside data engineers and scientists. • A track record of your analysis influencing business decisions. • Genuine enthusiasm for stakeh
