About the role

Help us build the future of public administration! Ayunis is a Munich-based GovTech company trusted by more than 800 cities, municipalities and districts across the DACH region. With Ayunis Core, we are building an open-source AI platform that automates repetitive administrative work. We use cutting-edge AI and engineering tools to build cutting-edge agentic technology—both for our customers and for our own development workflows. Tasks Your role As Principal Engineer, you will provide hands-on technical leadership across our product, integration platform and production infrastructure. Working closely with the CTO and engineering team, you will set technical direction, make critical architectural decisions and help other engineers deliver independently. You will remain close to code and production without becoming the bottleneck for every difficult problem. Your responsibilities • Evolve the architecture of Ayunis Core across frontend, backend, agent runtime, identity, permissions and extension interfaces. • Own the technical direction of our infrastructure, including deployments, reliability, observability, security and incident readiness. • Build stable APIs, SDKs and reusable integration patterns for external systems such as document management systems and identity providers. • Make pragmatic trade-offs between delivery speed, simplicity and long-term maintainability. • Work with Product and customer-facing teams to turn recurring needs into reusable product capabilities. • Collaborate with open-source contributors, software vendors and integration partners. Requirements What you bring • Experience operating at Staff, Principal or a comparable level in a production software environment. • Strong backend and systems architecture skills, ideally with TypeScript and Node.js. • Hands-on experience with agent runtimes like LangChain, OpenAI Agent SDK, Mastra or similar. • Hands-on experience with sovereign infrastructure, containers, CI/CD, scaling, observability and security. • Experience designing APIs and integrations, such as OAuth/OIDC, webhooks, synchronization or event-driven systems. • The ability to move between high-level architecture and hands-on implementation and debugging. • A pragmatic product mindset: you judge technical decisions by their effect on reliability, delivery speed and customer value. • The ability to set technical direction and lead engineers without relying on formal authority. • An interest in using and systematically improving AI-assisted software development. • Confident communication in German and English. Our stack TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, React, TanStack, PostgreSQL, Redis, S3-compatible storage, Docker Compose, Hetzner, GitHub Actions, OpenTelemetry and multiple LLM providers. No LangChain though – we've built our agent orchestration from the ground up. Benefits What we offer • A competitive salary • €2,000 annual personal development budget • 30 days of holiday • Significant influence over an open-source product and engineering organization • Flexible working hours, hybrid work and EU workations • Modern Munich office and equipment • Regular team events and off-sites • Public transport subsidy and Wellpass Interested? We look forward to hearing from you. Find Jobs in Germany on Arbeitnow
