About the role
Before the detail, here's the challenge you'd help us solve. We build the embodied intelligence that moves real vehicles safely, and the ecosystem a billion machines will run on in the future. Very few people in AI can say this. Every role here, whatever the team, plugs into that. Here’s what this particular role covers. 🛠️ About our Portal Team Portal is the platform that connects Wayve to the outside world — handling data exchange with partners, surfacing AI insights and enabling the commercial deployment of Wayve’s autonomy stack to OEM partners globally. The team operates as a startup within a scale-up, with its own infrastructure, its own DevOps and a high-autonomy operating model. As our Platform Engineer, you’ll own and evolve the cloud infrastructure and developer tooling that helps the Portal engineering team ship safely and quickly. 🧠 Your day-to-day • Design, build and maintain cloud infrastructure, primarily on Azure, using Terraform to support development, staging and production environments. • Own and evolve RBAC/IAM across cloud infrastructure and application layers for a multi-tenant Portal environment. • Build and improve CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes-based deployment workflows to increase developer velocity, reliability and deployment safety. • Build internal tools and observability capabilities that help engineers deliver performant, reliable software at scale. • Participate in a support/on-call rotation, responding to incidents and contributing to root cause analysis. • Apply practical security and networking knowledge to harden the platform, and coach application developers on secure, scalable delivery. 🧩 What you’ll be working on: • A broad, hands-on platform engineering remit spanning Azure, Terraform, Kubernetes, IAM/RBAC, CI/CD, observability, security and networking — rather than a narrow specialisation. • Infrastructure and deployment tooling that underpins the entire Portal engineering team and supports the commercial deployment of autonomous vehicle technology. • RBAC/IAM and multi-tenancy challenges across infrastructure and product layers, building secure access controls and guardrails. • Developer tooling that balances speed with security and quality, making it easier for application engineers to build and ship safely. • Reliable, observable platform services that improve the developer experience and support production operations. 🙌 You should apply if: • You have strong hands-on cloud infrastructure experience, ideally with Azure, and production experience with Terraform and infrastructure as code. • You bring deep RBAC/IAM knowledge at cloud infrastructure level; experience with application-level IAM and multi-tenant products is highly valuable. • You’ve built and maintained CI/CD pipelines and can improve deployment reliability and safety. • You have solid security and networking fundamentals and are a hands-on builder, not just a reviewer. • You’ve worked in a support or on-call rotation and are comfortable responding to incidents and investigating their causes. • You’re a strong communicator who enjoys collaborating with and coaching application developers. • You take ownership of outcomes, work with a high degree of autonomy and bring a product mindset to the developer experience. Experience across multiple cloud providers, such as Azure, AWS or GCP, would be helpful, as would a background in developer experience, internal tooling or a startup or high-growth engineering environment. Security certifications are a plus, but aren’t required. 🌱 Not ticking every box? That’s totally okay! If you’re passionate about autonomy and keen to learn, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every requirement. More about Wayve: 🚀 Wayve is building the leading AI platf
