About the role

Job Description Job Description Vacancy Status:  This posting is not for an existing vacancy within the organization and is open to new applications. (New Head Count) AI Disclosure: As part of the application process, Artificial Intelligence will be used in the hiring process for this role. Work Arrangement  Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Markham Elevation Centre (MEC) three times per week at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business. The Role: We are seeking a motivated software engineer to help verify and validate Propulsion Thermal Management functions across virtual, simulated, hardware-in-the-loop, and vehicle environments. In this role, you will translate system requirements and behavioral specifications into clear, traceable test cases, develop and execute automated system behavior tests, analyze results, and support the resolution of issues that affect vehicle software quality. The role is in the Vehicle Software and Electronics Engineering (VSEE) organization. The team is at the forefront of innovation, where vehicle software design, integration, release, and validation come together to improve engineering and quality processes. Your work will help ensure that thermal-management functions—including battery and propulsion-system temperature control, cabin conditioning, diagnostics, and degraded operating modes—perform as intended and support the delivery of high-quality GM vehicles. This work contributes to GM’s vision of a world with ZERO Crashes, ZERO Emissions, and ZERO Congestion. What You’ll do: • Translate Propulsion Thermal Management system requirements, system functions, and Behavioral Test Specifications (BTS) into clear, traceable system test cases, procedures, and acceptance criteria. Maintain linkage between requirements, test assets, execution results, and defects. • Develop, maintain, and execute automated System Behavior Tests (SBTs) and functional system tests for propulsion thermal functions across CoSim/SIL environments, with targeted validation on HIL benches and vehicles when real-time behavior, hardware I/O, or physical system response is required. • Validate end-to-end thermal-management behavior, including RESS/battery heating and cooling, power-electronics and drive-unit thermal protection, cabin heating and cooling, thermal request coordination and arbitration, sensor and actuator behavior, diagnostics, and degraded or remedial operating modes. • Support CoSim package readiness for Propulsion Thermal Management by checking package health, interfaces, configurations, virtual ECU behavior, plant-model connectivity, HWIO behavior, and environment sanity before broader regression or milestone testing. • Review automated regression results. Rapidly distinguish product/software defects from CoSim, plant-model, infrastructure, configuration, or test-script issues; perform initial root-cause isolation and route each issue to the appropriate owner. • Document failures with sufficient technical detail to reproduce the issue, including software and model versions, vehicle/environment conditions, calibrations or overrides, logs, expected versus actual behavior, and requirement/test-case references. Track defects through resolution and verify corrective actions through retest and regression. • Partner with Product System Engineers, System Owners, Functional System Architects, System/Sub-System Engineers, Software Quality Assurance Engineers, Software Integration Managers, calibration teams, and validation teams to define test scope, review BTS/STS content, resolve requirement ambiguity, and support TFRP milestone readiness. • Maintain test scripts, procedures, test data, dashboards, and supporting documentation f
