About the role
Job Details: Job Description: The Role and Impact: As a GPU Software Development Engineer, you will focus on enabling and optimizing Intel's GPUs by developing, backporting, and validating software solutions that span the stack-from firmware and device drivers to APIs and the application layer. You will play a critical role in designing, debugging, and improving GPU kernel drivers and graphics software on Linux platforms across diverse kernel environments and enterprise distributions, ensuring seamless integration and performance. Your contributions will directly support Intel's innovations in graphics and data center technologies. Business Group: The Data Center Group (DCG) drives Intel's leadership in computing innovation, with a focus on delivering high-performance solutions for data-centric markets. This group develops technologies that power advanced workloads in cloud computing, AI, and graphics acceleration. By joining DCG, you'll collaborate with experts dedicated to enabling cutting-edge GPU solutions that advance Intel's broader mission to shape the future of technology. Key Responsibilities: • Develop and validate GPU kernel drivers and graphics software solutions, contributing to the full development lifecycle from design and implementation to testing and release across Linux platforms, including contributions to the open-source graphics software community where applicable. • Debug, optimize, and enable Linux DRM/KMD drivers - including root cause analysis of kernel panics, regressions, deadlocks, race conditions, and memory corruption across diverse hardware and software environments. • Design and implement new driver features, enhancements, and optimizations within the Linux DRM/KMD subsystem, collaborating closely with hardware and firmware teams to enable new GPU capabilities. • Adapt and backport upstream Intel GPU drivers (DRM/KMD) to LTS, enterprise, and customized customer kernel environments, designing and maintaining compatibility layers and out-of-tree packaging solutions such as DKMS. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams - spanning firmware, KMD, user-space runtime, and compute/graphics stacks - to ensure robust integration, compatibility, and stability across the full GPU software stack. • Partner with validation and DevOps teams to expand multi-kernel test matrices, regression suites, and automated build pipelines that catch compatibility breaks early. • Ensure high code quality and adherence to Linux kernel coding standards through active participation in design and code reviews, spanning both upstream driver development and backported driver deliverables. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electronics/Electrical Engineering. 5+ years of hands-on experience in large-scale software product development with deep focus on Linux kernel and system software engineering. • Expert-level C programming with deep understanding of Linux kernel internals, driver architecture, memory management, concurrency, locking primitives, and interrupt handling. • Proven experience developing and debugging Linux DRM/KMD drivers and device driver debugging mechanisms. • Hands-on experience backporting Linux kernel patches and drivers across kernel versions, with practical understanding of kernel API/ABI drift and compatibility wrapper construction. • Proficiency in Linux kernel debugging tools such as ftrace, perf, kdump/crash, kgdb, GDB, dynamic debug, and interpreting stack traces and lockdep reports. Preferred Qualifications: • Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electronics/Electrical Engineering. • Deep experience with Linux DRM/KMS subsystem, GPU memory managem
