About the role
C-17 Sustainment - Avionics and Mission Systems Engineer Company: Boeing Hungary Incorporated We are seeking an Avionics and Mission Systems Engineer to support operations at Papa Air Base Hungary , as part of Boeing’s on-site field engineering and technical support team in support of NATO operations. This role focuses on providing hands-on technical support for aircraft avionics and mission systems, releasing engineering products to enable maintenance and repair of in-service issues, troubleshooting complex operational defects, and supporting aircraft availability in a high-tempo environment. You will work closely with maintenance personnel, operations teams, and Boeing engineering staff to resolve technical issues, provide clear repair guidance, and ensure safe, effective, and timely restoration of mission capability. In this role, you will be responsible for : • Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex avionics, mission systems, and related electrical/interface issues on operational aircraft. • Providing practical repair guidance, technical recommendations, and engineering support to NATO and maintenance personnel. • Interpreting and applying technical data including schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, system manuals, maintenance publications, and repair procedures. • Releasing engineering products and technical documentation to support maintenance actions and return aircraft to service. • Delivering on-the-job training, demonstrations, and technical mentoring on system theory, fault isolation, servicing, troubleshooting, and repair techniques. • Supporting aircraft mission readiness by identifying corrective actions, coordinating support requirements, and recommending safe and effective courses of action. • Preparing technical reports, product support documentation, publication change requests, and continuous improvement inputs to record field activity and drive system improvements. • Collaborating with Boeing engineering, supply, operations, and customer teams, and supporting other NATO or allied operators when required. • Traveling to other operating locations as needed to support maintenance recovery, technical investigations, or operational commitments. Basic requirements/ qualifications: • Engineering degree in a relevant discipline such as Avionics, Electrical, Electronics, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering, or equivalent experience. • Demonstrable experience troubleshooting avionics and mission systems in an operational aircraft environment using technical publications, schematics, wiring diagrams, and historical fault data. • Proven knowledge of aircraft systems integration, fault isolation, and repair procedures. • Ability to work under pressure in a 24/7 operational environment; on-call support may be required. • Required: active or the ability to obtain NATO or US security clearance. Preferred qualifications(nice to have): • Understanding of how avionics and mission systems interface with electrical, communications, navigation, mission, and aircraft control systems. • Experience with engineering review and product release processes. • Strong technical writing and documentation skills. • Experience mentoring or training maintenance personnel. • Prior military aircraft, transport aircraft, or NATO support experience is desirable. • Familiarity with aircraft support equipment, ground test equipment, and standard maintenance tooling.
