A Day in the Life The Necropsy Technician IV (Parapathologist) is part of the pathology function supporting preclinical research, laboratory operations, and scientific programs through necropsy, gross pathology, tissue management, and technical documentation activities. This role partners closely with pathologists, scientists, histotechnologists, study teams, and laboratory personnel to support research and diagnostic objectives while maintaining compliance with quality, regulatory, and animal welfare requirements. This position is based onsite and requires a minimum of four days per week in the laboratory environment with a typical schedule would be 5 days per week. Responsibilities may extend beyond primary pathology activities and include support of other laboratory, research, and operational functions based on business needs, workload demands, and individual qualifications. This role may include occasional weekend support. The Necropsy Technician IV (Parapathologist) is an advanced technical role responsible for performing necropsy and gross pathology procedures, collecting and processing biological specimens, maintaining technical records, and supporting laboratory operations. Working independently, this individual applies extensive technical expertise to ensure the accurate, compliant, and timely execution of pathology activities while serving as a resource to colleagues and study teams. Primary Responsibilities • Perform necropsy, gross pathology, tissue collection, specimen processing, and related pathology procedures in accordance with study protocols and established procedures. • Examine, dissect, describe, photograph, measure, trim, and prepare tissue specimens for histopathologic evaluation and other laboratory analyses. • Collect, label, process, archive, and track biological specimens while maintaining specimen integrity, chain of custody, and traceability. • Document observations, findings, procedures, and technical data in compliance with quality systems, regulatory requirements, and departmental standards. • Draft, revise, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, forms, training materials, and technical documentation. • Operate, maintain, inspect, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to support efficient and compliant laboratory operations. • Provide technical guidance, training, and onboarding support to less experienced personnel and assist with workflow coordination. • Collaborate with pathologists, researchers, study directors, and laboratory staff to support study execution, quality initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts. Required Qualifications • High School Diploma or equivalent and 8+ years of experience in necropsy, pathology, laboratory, biomedical research, or related technical laboratory functions. • Experience performing necropsy, gross pathology, tissue collection, specimen processing, and biological specimen management. • Experience maintaining technical documentation, laboratory records, and data in regulated laboratory environments. • Experience operating and troubleshooting laboratory equipment and following established laboratory procedures. • Experience working within quality, reg
