About the role

Job Description The Role The High Voltage Electrical Technical Operations Specialist provides hands-on technical support for high-voltage systems and advanced battery cell manufacturing equipment at GM’s Battery Cell Development Center. This role maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and supports commissioning of electrical distribution, formation, battery test, automation, and utility systems. The specialist works independently under general direction and partners with engineering, facilities, EHS, and suppliers to keep equipment safe, reliable, and available. What You Will Do Safety and Compliance • Follow GM safety standards, electrical safe-work practices, lockout/tagout, hazardous energy control, and applicable regulatory requirements. • Perform or support high-voltage isolation, absence-of-voltage verification, grounding, switching, re-energization, and return-to-service activities within training and authorization. • Support audits, risk assessments, emergency response, and incident investigations; identify and address electrical safety risks. Maintenance and Troubleshooting • Maintain and troubleshoot electrical test stands, formation systems, battery handling equipment, power supplies, transformers, motor controls, and distribution equipment. • Diagnose AC/DC faults using schematics, meters, insulation-resistance testing, and approved diagnostic tools. • Troubleshoot PLC I/O, HMIs, drives, instrumentation, sensors, safety circuits, interlocks, and industrial networks; determine root cause and restore safe operation. • Complete preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance and document work, equipment changes, and return-to-service status. Technical and Project Support • Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, one-lines, equipment manuals, and control logic. • Support commissioning, startup, debugging, equipment upgrades, equipment acceptance, SAT/MARO, supplier FAT/SAT, and field troubleshooting. • Train operators and peers on safe operation and basic maintenance practices; contribute to standard work, reliability improvements, spare-parts planning, and continuous improvement. • Communicate equipment status, risks, repair timelines, and escalation needs clearly and proactively. Required Qualifications • Technical degree, completed four-year apprenticeship, electrical journeyman’s license, or equivalent combination of education and experience. • High-voltage electrical certification, authorization, or documented training appropriate to the systems and voltage levels supported. • Three or more years of hands-on experience as an electrical, industrial, maintenance, or controls technician. • Experience with electrical safe-work practices, lockout/tagout, hazardous energy control, and absence-of-voltage verification. • Ability to troubleshoot AC/DC power, controls, motor controls, drives, instrumentation, sensors, safety circuits, and PLC-based systems. • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and one-line diagrams and safely use electrical test equipment. • Ability to wear required PPE, work any shift in a 24/7 coverage model, and support weekends and holidays as needed. • Strong communication skills, proficiency with maintenance documentation systems, and ability to travel to suppliers when required. Preferred Qualifications • Experience with lithium-ion battery manufacturing, formation, electrical test, end-of-line testing, high-voltage battery systems, power conversion, or energy-storage equipment. • Experience with arc-flash assessments, medium-voltage systems, electrical safety programs, or energized-work planning. • Experience with Siemens PLCs/HMIs, PLC diagnostics, industrial networks, Fanuc robotics, automated material handling,
