About the role

As the Director of Account Management for the UK and Europe, you will drive the growth and retention of Marqeta’s top regional customers through developing a high-performing group of Account Managers. Your core focus involves navigating complex enterprise organisations, aligning with their long-term strategic goals, and unlocking mutual revenue through renewals and portfolio expansion. Acting as the primary commercial owner for this region, you will partner seamlessly with Solutions & Delivery, Product, Engineering, Legal and compliance to ensure Marqeta remains deeply embedded in our clients' operations as they scale globally. PLEASE NOTE: This is a hybrid role and requires employees to be based within 35 miles of our London office. You will be expected to work on-site two days a week, on Tuesday and Thursday, with the flexibility to work remotely on the other days. The Talent team will share more details if selected for the "Recruiter" Interview. We'd love for you to join us! The Impact You'll Have • Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of Account Managers. You will guide their account strategies, support them through complex commercial negotiations, and foster a culture of continuous growth. • Drive Regional Revenue Growth: Own the commercial strategy for an assigned portfolio of existing strategic accounts in the UK and EU. Spot and drive opportunities for growth, such as expanding into new European corridors, launching new card programmes, or adopting additional Marqeta products like Credit or RiskControl. • Lead Renewals and Pricing: Manage complex contract renewals and pricing negotiations. You will support your team to structure commercial terms that ensure long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships while reflecting the nuances of the European payments landscape. • Build Executive Relationships: Cultivate genuine, trusted relationships with C-level executives and key product stakeholders across our key accounts. You should be viewed as a strategic advisor who understands their business, not just a supplier. • Operational Excellence: Challenge the status quo and refine our operational account management processes to ensure we are set up for success. • Strategic Account Planning: Guide your team to develop clear, actionable Account Plans and run impactful Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) to align Marqeta’s roadmap with your customers’ strategic goals. • Cross-Functional Leadership: Act as the internal voice of your European customers and your team. Champion region-specific feature requests, unblock escalations, and coordinate seamlessly with Product, Engineering, and Operations to deliver excellent service. • Market Intelligence: Stay plugged into the UK and European fintech, payments, and embedded finance landscape—including regulatory shifts like PSD3 or UK FCA guidelines—so you can proactively advise clients on market trends. Who You Are This role requires a solid foundation in payments and any specific experience with card issuing is a huge bonus that will set you up for quick success and allow you to drive immediate impact. • Proven Account Leader: 10+ years of experience in enterprise account management, strategic partnerships, or existing-client sales within complex enterprise SaaS or financial technology. • People Manager: Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, and developing a team of account managers or commercial professionals to hit retention and growth targets. • Commercial Acumen: Extensive experience managing complex, multi-year, multi-million pound/euro contract renewals and commercial negotiations. • Relationship Builder: Proven ability to map and navigate large organisations, building rapport with both technical leaders (CTOs, VPs of Engineering) and comme
