US H-1B: cap-subject employers enter a lottery weighted by wage level — Level I gets 1 entry, Level IV gets 4 (DHS projected selection odds ≈15% at Level I to ≈61% at Level IV). Universities and non-profit research employers are cap-exempt. The $100,000 fee for new petitions from abroad is currently blocked by a court order (appeal pending).

About the role
Job Description Vacancy Status: Yes - This posting is for an existing vacancy within the organization and is open to new applications. (Backfill) AI Disclosure: As part of the application process, Artificial Intelligence will be used in the hiring process for this role Hybrid - This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Markham three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business] . The role General Motors is seeking an experienced System Architect to define the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation environments supporting brake, chassis, and propulsion thermal management systems. These environments connect real-time plant models with embedded controllers, sensors, actuators, vehicle networks, and representative vehicle or subsystem hardware. They enable engineering teams to develop, integrate, verify, validate, and calibrate vehicle controls more safely, efficiently, and earlier in the product-development cycle. This is a senior technical leadership role for an architect who can operate across controls, software, hardware, modeling, test, safety, and program organizations. You will be recognized as a technical authority in your area, lead complex initiatives with broad visibility, and influence decisions across GM without relying on formal authority. What you’ll do • Define and communicate the architecture vision and multi-year roadmap for Brake and Thermal HIL capabilities, aligned with vehicle program, safety, quality, and functional objectives. • Define requirements and acceptance criteria for model fidelity, deterministic real-time execution, latency, scalability and maintainability. • Provide technical direction for real-time plant-model strategies covering brake hydraulics and actuators, chassis dynamics, vehicle motion, suspension-related behavior, thermal loops, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, radiators, battery thermal management, refrigerant, HVAC, and heat-pump systems, as applicable. • Guide integration of models and HIL environments with embedded controllers, control software, calibration tools, vehicle and subsystem hardware, electrical interfaces, and CAN, CAN FD, LIN, and automotive Ethernet networks. • Lead resolution of the most difficult technical issues spanning modeling, controls, embedded software, communications, electrical and mechanical interfaces, real-time platforms, laboratory apparatus. • Partner with product management, software teams, hardware design-release teams and test users to ensure that delivered environments are fit for purpose. • Improve the robustness, usability, maintainability, documentation, operational readiness, and safe use of HIL benches and supporting assets. • Lead large, ambiguous, and technically challenging initiatives across multiple engineering disciplines and organizational boundaries. • Mentor engineers, grow technical capability across the organization, and promote knowledge sharing and reuse. What you’ll need • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related discipline. • Typically 10 or more years of relevant engineering experience, including substantial experience with HIL, real-time simulation, embedded controls, or complex mechatronic test environments. • Recognized expertise in one or more of the following: brake controls, chassis controls, propulsion thermal management, real-time simulation, HIL architecture. • Demonstrated experience defining architecture, technical roadmaps, system interfaces, non-functional requirements, acceptance criteria, and verification and validation strategies for c
