About the role
About the Team The Office Technology team designs, deploys, and operates the network infrastructure that keeps Datadog’s global offices connected, secure, and reliable. The team owns routing, switching, wireless, office firewalls, connectivity, and the observability and operational practices needed to provide a dependable employee experience at scale. About the Role As a Senior Network Engineer on the Office Technology team, you will own major network services and complex multi-site initiatives from problem definition and design through implementation, migration, and stable operations. You will act as a technical anchor for the team, leading design reviews and difficult troubleshooting, improving standards and automation, and helping other engineers deliver high-quality work. This is a senior level role that combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership. You will shape team roadmap proposals and technical decisions through evidence and clear tradeoffs, while remaining accountable for reliable delivery and day-to-day operability. What You’ll Do • Design resilient, scalable solutions across LAN , Wi-Fi, routing, switching, and office firewalls, with explicit failure domains, capacity assumptions, security controls, and migration paths • Author RFCs and lead design reviews, clearly documenting goals, constraints, alternatives, decisions, risks, validation, rollout, and rollback • Build production readiness into network changes through meaningful service objectives, monitoring, alerting, runbooks, capacity planning, failure testing, and operational handoff • Design reusable automation for provisioning, configuration, policy, compliance, telemetry, and change validation, with appropriate testing, peer review, drift detection, staged rollout, and safe rollback • Own, alongside other senior engineers and leadership, the health and lifecycle of major network services, using data to improve reliability, coverage, performance, security, supportability, and cost • Lead difficult incidents and root-cause investigations, communicate clearly during high-impact events, and ensure follow-up work addresses systemic causes • Evaluate technology and vendor options and make pragmatic recommendations grounded in operability, security, scalability, and business impact • Partner closely with Security, IT Support, Endpoints, AV , Workplace, Construction, Infrastructure teams, and external vendors on cross-functional initiatives • Mentor other engineers, delegate effectively, improve team standards and documentation, and raise the quality of design and operational practices • Participate in operational support, incident response, and planned maintenance activities as appropriate for the team Who You Are • A deeply experienced, hands-on network engineer with strong knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, wireless, DNS, DHCP , firewalls, and enterprise network security • Experienced designing and operating resilient network infrastructure across distributed offices or campus environments • Skilled at diagnosing complex issues using packet captures, logs, flow data, dashboards, and vendor telemetry, and at reasoning from protocols and failure modes • Comfortable building maintainable automation using scripting, APIs, infrastructure-as-code, version control, testing, and CI/CD practices • Strong in production engineering practices, including observability, service objectives, capacity planning, change safety, incident response, and post-incident improvement • Able to take ambiguous problems from problem statement to durable solution, balancing reliability, security, user experience, cost, and delivery speed • A clear, concise communicator who can lead technical discussions, explain tradeoffs, and build alignment with t
