About the role

Digital Ecosystem Software Engineering Manager Company: The Boeing Company The Boeing Company is currently seeking Digital Infrastructure Software Engineering Manager to join a proprietary Air Dominance program in Berkeley, MO.  This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.   The Digital Infrastructure Software Engineering Manager will lead 10-15 employees performing DevOps, platform reliability, and automation functions. We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented, and technically skilled manager to lead, grow, and mature the DevOps practice.   Position Responsibilities:    • Integrate with stakeholders to understand program-wide requirements for reporting, observability, and execution • Lead 10-15 engineers responsible for establishing processes, tooling, and automations to improve platform reliability, deployment velocity, and security • Coach and train direct and indirect employees to promote widespread DevOps best practices (automation, IaC, monitoring, incident response) • Coordinate with product management, architecture, and other stakeholders to align backlogs, roadmaps, and infrastructure plans • Manage inter-team dependencies, risks, and integration points across platforms • Define and track meaningful metrics (deployment success rate, lead time for changes, deployment frequency, MTTR, change failure rate, system health, and team health) • Use feedback from other managers, engineers, and program management to drive organizational continuous improvement • Manage budgets and forecasts related to DevOps initiatives, tooling, and platform modernization • Ensure security and compliance in all DevOps activities (DevSecOps practices)   This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in Berkeley, MO.   Boeing First-Line Leader Assessment: To be considered for this position you will be required to complete an assessment as part of the selection process.  Failure to complete the assessment will remove you from consideration.   Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):    • Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.) • This position requires ability to obtain Special Program Access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only         Bachelor's Degree • Candidates must have at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course “Exploring Leadership • Experience with Software Engineering principles including, but not limited to, Software Configuration Management, Software Architecture and Design, and Software Life Cycle Management • 2+ years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, software engineering, and/or cloud engineering   Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):   • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science • Knowledge or experience in the defense or avionics industry • 5+ years of experience working on an Agile/DevOps team using Agile methodologies and tools • 5+ years of experience leading software engineering efforts • Certifications or training related to DevOps • Experience with observability and monitoring ecosystems (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch) • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and hybrid/on-prem architectures • Familiarity with incident response, disaster recovery, and capacity planning
