About the role
Job Description The Role: General Motors is seeking an engineer to develop robust engine calibration solutions across vehicles, embedded software, control algorithms, and engine hardware. The role supports calibrations that meet customer, performance, emissions, regulatory, and program requirements across internal combustion engine and PHEV applications. The engineer will support the Lead Calibrator and Diagnostic Strategist while working with Vehicle Calibration, Engine Controls, software, hardware, emissions, vehicle, manufacturing, quality, supplier, and compliance teams. The assignment may vary by program and business need. What You’ll do: • Support one of two primary discipline areas: Engine Position and Misfire, or GPF, O₂, and Catalyst Monitoring. Specific assignments may vary and may include related engine calibration functions. • Design, develop, calibrate, validate, and release engine control and diagnostic solutions that meet performance, emissions, regulatory, customer, and program requirements. • Use data acquisition, empirical analysis, and engineering judgment to evaluate results and resolve complex technical issues. • Support engine, dynamometer, vehicle, and emissions development and validation activities, including emissions-correlated diagnostics and OBD/CARB testing, as needed. • Support requirements development, technical reviews, root-cause analysis, troubleshooting, and corrective-action activities, including investigation of emissions-related diagnostic trouble codes. • Identify calibration risks and vulnerabilities, develop mitigation approaches, and support program objectives and launch readiness. • Follow, improve, and help establish calibration procedures, standard work, and technical processes. • Collaborate across engineering and business functions to align technical work and resolve issues. • Communicate technical status, risks, recommendations, actions, and timing impacts, and maintain clear technical documentation, regulatory documentation, and calibration records. Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering or technical discipline. • Minimum of two years of technical, calibration, controls, diagnostics, or related engineering experience. • Experience with data acquisition and analytical problem solving on complex technical systems. • Knowledge of powertrain or engine systems and engineering principles governing mechanical and electrical systems • Knowledge of powertrain or engine systems and engineering Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment. • Ability to support hands-on development and validation activities, including operation of test vehicles when required. What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills) • Experience with engine calibration, controls, diagnostics, emissions, vehicle development, or related technical work. • Experience with in-vehicle, dynamometer, emissions, or other development and validation testing. • Experience with calibration and data-analysis tools, including ETAS INCA/MDA or similar products. • Automotive OEM, supplier, manufacturing, or compliance experience. • Graduate degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
