About the role
Typical Accountabilities - Lead and develop the Medical Affairs team, providing coaching, mentorship, performance management, and continuous development opportunities. - Oversee succession planning, talent pipeline development, and the effective recruitment and onboarding of new team members within Medical Affairs. - Manage resource allocation, workload distribution, and team priorities to ensure delivery of objectives for brands, projects, and key initiatives. - Lead cross-functional and global Medical Affairs Teams (GMAT), ensuring strong collaboration and robust iMAP development for each assigned brand. - Shape medical strategy for the country or therapy area by providing direction and facilitating internal alignment. Lead execution of strategic initiatives, ensuring required capabilities are in place. - Develop and implement annual objectives and milestones in line with the long-term medical strategy. - Serve as Medical Affairs lead on Global Product and Brand Teams, integrating patient and physician insights into all stages of development and commercialization. - Act as key scientific expert in country. - Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, payers, patient organizations, and regulatory bodies. - Ensure all activities and deliverables – scientific, regulatory, and commercial – adhere to internal standards, company policies, and external regulations. - Develop and oversee budget planning, financial management, and compliance across Medical Affairs activities. - Lead and align scientific publication strategies, external research initiatives (ESR), and evidence generation with the overarching Medical Affairs strategy. - Collaborate with Medical Excellence leads to support the development and delivery of knowledge, skills, and training programs for team members and affiliates. - Identify and drive process improvements, operational excellence, and innovation in Medical Affairs functions. - Monitor and incorporate global healthcare trends and best practices into Medical Affairs strategy and team development. Qualifications and Skills Essential: Master’s degree or higher in a scientific discipline (e.g., MSc, PharmD, MD, or PhD); Bachelor’s degree with exceptional, relevant experience may be considered; Extensive Medical Affairs experience within the pharmaceutical industry, including evidence generation and clinical trial design; Proven experience in team management, cross-functional/matrix leadership, and stakeholder management (across payers, providers, and patients); Demonstrated success in project and budget/financial management; Strong experience at the medical–marketing interface and knowledge of healthcare systems; Excellent communication skills, with the ability to distil complex concepts for stakeholders; Track record of maintaining an ongoing connection to clinical practice or healthcare delivery; Strong business acumen. Desirable: Medical Doctor (MD) or PhD in a scientific discipline; Broad understanding of multiple aspects within Medical Affairs; Up-to-date knowledge of current technical and regulatory developments.
