US H-1B: cap-subject employers enter a lottery weighted by wage level — Level I gets 1 entry, Level IV gets 4 (DHS projected selection odds ≈15% at Level I to ≈61% at Level IV). Universities and non-profit research employers are cap-exempt. The $100,000 fee for new petitions from abroad is currently blocked by a court order (appeal pending).

About the role
About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the role Anthropic is working to build a rigorous, evidence-based understanding of AI's economic effects. We're hiring a writer focused on economics and policy to work on a growing portfolio that includes economic research reports, long-form essays, op-eds, and policy briefs. You'll spend much of your time working with economists and researchers, helping them explain their findings plainly. You’ll write for economists, policymakers, journalists, and the public. You’ll be on the Editorial team, which is responsible for shaping how Anthropic communicates. Our goal is to build understanding about the opportunities and challenges of transformative AI, and we work extensively with partner teams including The Anthropic Institute and our Policy team. In this role, you'll write about AI's effects on productivity and the labor market, the economics of compute, innovation policy, and regulation, among many other subjects, and you'll help decide which economic and policy questions Anthropic takes up next. You'll do this with an amazing vantage point on what is happening at the frontier. Key responsibilities • Work with our economists and researchers to write and edit Anthropic's economic research publications—including the Anthropic Economic Index, and new reports on how AI is affecting work, productivity, and growth. • Produce rigorous, readable work on the economics and policy of AI in whatever format the subject calls for, including research reports, long-form essays, op-eds, policy briefs, and blog posts. • Collaborate with Anthropic's economics researchers, Policy team, research scientists, and external economists and policy experts to translate complex findings into accessible public-facing content. • Engage with economists, policymakers, think tanks, academics, and media to advance productive conversations about AI policy and economics. You may be a good fit if you have • A demonstrated ability to write compellingly about complex economic and policy topics for broad audiences. • A body of published long-form writing on economics, policy, or technology, in any venue. • Quantitative literacy: you can read and explain an economics working paper. • Familiarity with how ideas circulate on social platforms like X, and a perspective on how arguments get traction. • Experience working closely with experts on their own material, earning their trust, and pushing them to make stronger, more defensible arguments. • Comfort engaging in policy debates while maintaining intellectual rigor and nuance. • Excitement about Anthropic's mission to develop AI that is safe and beneficial. Strong candidates may also have • Professional experience doing economic research or analysis, or editing data-heavy research publications. • Experience working with policymaking institutions (think tanks, government, advocacy organizations), and a working understanding of how Washington operates. • Direct experience on AI policy or technology policy issues. • A track record of influencing policy debates through writing and public engagement. • Published work on economic growth, labor economics, innovation economics, progress studies, regulatory policy, competition policy, or the economics of emerging technologies. • An audience of your own, ideally that you’ve built on your own.
