About the role

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Accountant (m/f/d) based in France. As an Accountant, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the accounting operations of German entities within an international software group. You will oversee day-to-day accounting activities, contribute to month-end and year-end closing processes, and ensure compliance with German accounting standards and tax regulations. Working closely with the finance team, external tax advisors, and payroll providers, you will help deliver reliable financial reporting and maintain strong internal controls. You will also contribute to budgeting, variance analysis, and financial performance monitoring to support informed business decisions. This fully remote opportunity offers a hands-on environment where you can improve existing processes, bring structure to financial operations, and take ownership of meaningful responsibilities. It is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented accounting professional seeking to grow within an international, entrepreneurial, and collaborative team. Accountabilities: • Manage day-to-day accounting activities for German legal entities, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely financial records. • Support month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journal entries, accounting adjustments, and financial analysis. • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and support the review of account balances to ensure accuracy and completeness. • Follow up with vendors regarding missing invoices, prepare cost accruals, and contribute to profit and loss (P&L) reviews. • Process supplier payments and bank transfers, ensuring that the appropriate approvals and internal procedures are followed. • Reconcile intercompany transactions and investigate discrepancies to maintain consistent financial records across entities. • Prepare German VAT filings, including Umsatzsteuervoranmeldung and Zusammenfassende Meldung, and support payroll tax declarations (Lohnsteuer-Anmeldung) in collaboration with external payroll providers and tax advisors. • Assist with the preparation of annual financial statements in accordance with German Commercial Code (HGB) requirements, as well as statutory audits and tax filings. • Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls, accounting procedures, and compliance practices. • Review and improve existing accounting processes, resolve outstanding items, clean up historical ledger discrepancies, and establish more efficient financial workflows. • Prepare financial KPIs and management reports, validating data accuracy and consistency before submission. • Support monthly variance analysis by comparing actual results against budgets and forecasts, investigating discrepancies, and providing relevant insights. • Collaborate with the wider finance team on daily accounting operations, reporting activities, process improvements, and special projects. Requirements: • At least 3 years of professional accounting experience, including hands-on responsibility for German accounting practices under HGB and German tax requirements. • Experience in the software, technology, or Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) industry. • Solid understanding of accrual accounting, financial reconciliations, journal entries, closing procedures, and financial reporting. • Practical knowledge of German VAT requirements and familiarity with payroll tax declarations and statutory reporting obligations. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with the ability to work confidently with financial data and accounting reports. • Experience with NetSuite or similar accounting and enterprise resource
