US H-1B: cap-subject employers enter a lottery weighted by wage level — Level I gets 1 entry, Level IV gets 4 (DHS projected selection odds ≈15% at Level I to ≈61% at Level IV). Universities and non-profit research employers are cap-exempt. The $100,000 fee for new petitions from abroad is currently blocked by a court order (appeal pending).

The Team You'll Work With
Every fund CFO’s office runs on spreadsheets, email threads, and a pile of portals that don’t talk to each other. We’re replacing all of it. Carta’s Investors business unit is building the system of record for private markets: the ledger, the books, the tax filings, the LP reporting, and the deal pipeline, all in one connected platform. Nearly 7,000 funds and SPVs and $150B in assets already run through it today.
Here’s the fun part: we’re not building another portal. We’re building a programmable back office. An expense lands in an inbox and gets coded to the right entity and staged for approval. A capital call goes out from a sentence. A K-1 is ready on day one. The software does the work, and customers reach it through the AI tools they already use.
It’s a pivotal moment for the business unit. The core is proven (90% of cash transactions reconciled in one day), and now we’re connecting it into a single platform that runs from fund financials to tax to LP reporting. You’ll join small, senior teams that blend startup-style speed with the rigor of software that moves real money.
We’re hiring multiple engineers, and you’ll be hired into the Investors business unit as a whole, then matched to a focus area based on your strengths and interests during our interview process. These focus areas include:
• Fund Financials: Ledger, expense allocation, and cash reconciliation. Get the numbers right, automatically, at scale.
• Tax and Compliance: K-1s, KYC, and audit trails. Compliance as code instead of compliance as a checklist.
• LP Management and Reporting: Capital calls, distributions, PCAPs, and tearsheets. Turn quarterly reporting from a scramble into a query.
The Problems You'll Solve
As a Senior Software Engineer II within the Investors business unit, you will lead technically complex projects and serve as a multiplier for your team. You’ll work to:
• Drive Implementation: Lead the execution of complex technical projects, driving them from concept to production while maintaining high standards for performance and reliability.
• Simplify Systems: Dig deep into our architecture to identify opportunities to simplify code and infrastructure, prioritizing changes that have a measurable business impact.
• Leverage Modern Tooling: Use the best AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate your workflow, improve code quality, and spend more of your time solving the high-level logic and unconventional problems
• Foster Growth: Act as a mentor and coach, raising the technical bar for your peers through diligent PR reviews and architectural guidance.
• Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with product and design to ensure we are building the right solution for the user, not just following a specification.
About You
• The Tech Stack: You have experience with (or a desire to learn) our core technologies: Python, Django, React, Postgres, and Kafka . We also utilize Java, gRPC, and AWS.
• Execution: You can break down complex user stories into actionable tasks and execute them with
