About the role
Our team
We believe travel can create citizens of the world. We spark moments of connection and transformation, giving people the freedom to explore openly and shape their own story.
With colleagues from more than 50 countries, our diversity sparks curiosity, insight, and a culture of openness, essential to understanding our travellers and one another.
We work in a flexible hybrid model from our Utrecht HQ and our homes across the Netherlands.
Just as travel is about discovery, we’re looking for people who want to go one stop further, joining a journey that inspires personal transformation through train travel.
We’re on the search for…
…someone who can go One Stop Further by stepping in as our interim HR Advisor for 6 months, starting in January. You’ll take ownership of absence management, with a strong focus on prevention, be a trusted sounding board for our colleagues and people managers, and pick up whatever else comes up to keep our day-to-day people support running smoothly.
Good to know: being close to our colleagues is key in this role. Being visible and approachable helps you pick up early on what’s going on. So you will be expected to be 3 days in the office, with Thursday as team day to work side by side with your colleagues.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be joining our People & Culture team, where we drive engagement and create the spark for our people to flourish. That means building an inclusive and equitable workplace where everyone feels empowered, fostering a culture of belonging, and recognising key moments along the employee journey. You’ll report to our Head of HR Ops.
Your role will focus on three areas: absence management and prevention, supporting colleagues and people managers across the employee journey, and picking up ad hoc HR work. As an HR Ops team, we work closely together and support each other day to day. In practice, this means:
• Owning absence and reintegration cases from the first sick day to a sustainable return to work, in line with Dutch rules (Wet verbetering poortwachter), working closely with our new occupational health provider, Lev Arbo, and people managers. This is the biggest part of the role, around 50–60% of your time.
• Keeping the absence planning calendar and case files up to date, so Poortwachter deadlines, appointments and follow-ups are always on track.
• Taking a preventative approach: spotting early signs of absence together with managers, holding preventative conversations, and helping shape well-being and prevention initiatives with Lev Arbo.
• Coaching and advising people managers on HR questions, from tricky conversations to performance issues and absence, so they feel confident handling them.
• Being an approachable, trusted point of contact for colleagues, someone they can turn to in confidence with questions, concerns or mediation support.
• Rolling up your sleeves for ad hoc HR tasks and projects as they come up, from policy updates to one-off requests, wherever the team needs an extra pair of hands.
What we’re looking for
It's already a possible match when you share the same mindset as us, being forward-thinking, results-driven, caring and embracing diversity.
In terms of your experience and skills:
• 4+ years of experience as an HR Advisor in the Netherlands.
• Good knowledge of Dutch employment law is essential.
• Solid, hands-on experience with absence management and reintegration. You can take over running cases from day one with minimal supervision.
• A preventative mindset: you look beyond the sick report, pick up early warning signs and help colleagues stay healthy and at work.
• Confident advising and coaching people managers at all levels of the organisation: you read situations well, listen to both sides, and give clear, practical advice.
