About the role
• Conduct research and development of advanced refrigerant cycle structure and control strategy for household and mobility application
• Focus is on refrigerant cycle and key components concepts investigation, innovative structure and component concept design, requirement engineering, system modeling and simulation, validation.
• Work closely with corporate research hub in Renningen, Germany on project activities and competence development.
• Work closely with business units to supply cutting-edge simulation solutions and transform them into product development workflows.
Main responsibility includes:
• Lead and participate research topics on advanced and innovative refrigerant cycle towards low GWP refrigerant, including simulation and verification.
• Construct refrigeration system dynamic and steady-state model libraries from scratch, including 1D models for compressor, expansion valve, heat exchanger, and pipes and system identification models.
• Develop system-level dynamic and steady-state models for room air conditioners (RAC) and VRF multi-split systems, covering inverter compressors, electronic expansion valves (EEV), multi-evaporator refrigerant distribution networks, fans, and air-side heat exchangers.
• Build control-oriented reduced-order models (ROM) of RAC/VRF systems and develop control strategies in advanced methods.
• Define experimental schemes and testing protocols for both steady-state and dynamic modeling, providing reliable data for model validation and accuracy improvement
• Apply and extend the above capabilities to the wider HVAC product portfolio — in particular room air conditioners (RAC) and VRF multi-split systems — covering air-side modeling, energy-efficiency simulation, and control-oriented model development.
• Support project activities to transfer deliverables to business units successfully.
• PhD degree, or master's degree with min. 3 years working experience, in Power Engineering & Engineering Thermo-physics, Refrigeration & Cryogenics, Thermal Energy, or related disciplines. Solid foundation in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and engineering thermodynamics is required.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in refrigeration or HVAC system modeling and simulation. Experience in building simulation platforms from scratch is strongly preferred.
• Proficient in 1D simulation tools (Dymola is a must). Familiar with Simulink.
• Strong programming skills in Python and Modelica. Proficiency in MATLAB is required. C++/C# development capability is a plus.
• Practical experience in Finite Volume Method (FVM) modeling, model convergence optimization, and simulation speedup improvement is highly valued.
• Experience with automated calibration workflow development and correlation database construction is a plus.
• Hands-on modeling experience with room air conditioners (RAC) and/or VRF multi-split systems is strongly preferred, including air-source heat pumps, wet-coil air-side modeling, and frosting/defrosting physics
• Familiar with HVAC energy-efficiency standards and rating procedures (APF/SEER/IEER; GB/T 7725, AHRI 210/240, ISO 15042) and the psychrometrics of moist air
• Experience with Modelica-based HVAC/thermo-fluid libraries (e.g., TIL, TFS, Buildings/AixLib) and refrigerant property interfaces (REFPROP/CoolProp/ExternalMedia, e.g., R32/R410A/R290) is a plus
• Excellent communication and coordination skills; strong written and verbal expression in English.
• Efficient, goal-oriented, structured working style. Strong documentation and writing skills.
• Passionate for innovation, proactive, self-motivated, and highly responsible. Open to work in an international environment.
