- 2 certified filings for “Senior Scientist I, Computational Biology” (Biochemists and Biophysicists) in MA: $125k–$175k, median $150k. Most were filed at wage level III (50%) — 3 lottery entries, ≈46% projected selection odds for cap-subject employers. Source: US Department of Labor LCA disclosure data (Oct 2025 – Jun 2026).
US H-1B: cap-subject employers enter a lottery weighted by wage level — Level I gets 1 entry, Level IV gets 4 (DHS projected selection odds ≈15% at Level I to ≈61% at Level IV). Universities and non-profit research employers are cap-exempt. The $100,000 fee for new petitions from abroad is currently blocked by a court order (appeal pending).

About the role
The Role:
Generate Biomedicines is looking for a talented Senior Scientist I to join the Protein Analytics & Biophysics team within Protein Sciences.
This role will lead and contribute to analytical characterization, separation science, and biophysical workflows that assess protein quality, stability, developability, and molecular interactions in support of discovery programs and Generate Biomedicines’ machine learning-powered platform. The successful candidate will bring broad technical expertise, strong scientific judgment, and the ability to represent Protein Analytics & Biophysics on cross-functional project teams.
The role is hands-on and collaborative, with responsibility for advancing methods, developing fit-for-purpose workflows, troubleshooting complex experiments, interpreting data, and helping the team respond to evolving program and platform needs. The position also offers opportunities to contribute to novel technologies at the interface of protein analytics, molecular barcoding, mass spectrometry, and machine-learning-enabled discovery.
Here's how you will contribute:
• Lead and execute hands-on analytical and biophysical workflows to assess protein stability, aggregation, self-association, polyreactivity, and other developability attributes.
• Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot separation workflows for protein characterization, including chromatography and related separation methods.
• Perform and expand binding analyses, with a strong emphasis on SPR and related kinetic or affinity-based technologies.
• Contribute to mass spectrometry workflows that characterize protein identity, molecular mass, heterogeneity, and modifications, and support integration of MS data with biophysical and separation-based measurements.
• Apply scientific principles creatively to develop and adapt methods for new sample types, protein formats, assay conditions, and project questions.
• Design experiments, establish appropriate controls, interpret data, and recommend follow-up studies with increasing independence.
• Work directly with project teams to define analytical plans, generate project data, communicate results and limitations, and support scientific decisions.
• Serve as a technical and strategic representative for Protein Analytics & Biophysics on assigned projects and contribute to cross-functional discussions and planning.
• Provide technical leadership within assigned methods, including leading method-development efforts, evaluating new assays, improving workflows, and helping establish best practices.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot relevant laboratory instrumentation and automated platforms.
• Contribute to emerging approaches involving molecular barcoding, mass spectrometry, proteomics, and machine-learning-enabled data integration as program needs evolve.
• Support training, knowledge sharing, documentation, and continuous improvement within Protein Analytics & Biophysics.
• Collaborate closely with scientists across Protein Sciences, Technology, computational and machine-learning teams, and other partner functions in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment.
The Ideal Candidate will have:
• Ph.D. in biochemistry, biophysics, analytical chemistry, protein science, or a related discipline with 4+ years of relevant research experience; or M.S. with 8+ years of relevant experience; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Strong hands-on expertise in biophysical characterization of proteins, including stability, aggregation, self-association, polyreactivity, or related developability assessments.
• Practical experience with protein separation science and chromatography, such as SEC, IEX, HIC, capillary electrophoresis, or related methods.
• Experience with SPR or related binding technologies
