A Day in the Life
At Medtronic Patient Care Systems (PCS), we power the digital heartbeat behind life-saving cardiac therapies. We build the connected ecosystem that enables clinicians to monitor, manage, and protect millions of patients living with implantable cardiac devices around the world.
From secure device connectivity and real-time data platforms to intelligent clinical tools and patient-facing experiences, PCS transforms complex cardiac data into clarity — helping physicians make faster decisions, improving outcomes, and giving patients greater confidence in their care.
Every line of code we write supports someone’s parent, spouse, child, or friend. Our work ensures that life-saving therapies are not only delivered safely and reliably, but continuously improved through innovation, insight, and global scale.
If you want to build technology that truly matters — where uptime means peace of mind and innovation means more birthdays — join us. Together, we are shaping the future of connected cardiac care and changing lives every single day
Come for a job, stay for a career!
As a Senior Software Engineer within Medtronic Patient Care Systems (PCS), you will join Eagle Eye , the team that turns field data from SmartSync device logs to insight for our connected cardiac care ecosystem. The team works in two areas: an Elastic data platform that ingests, processes, and monitors Smartsync device logs, and Field Investigations, which uses that data to investigate field complaints and issues and their root cause.
You will work across both areas, collaborating with R&D, software engineering quality, complaint handling, and field partners in the US and Ireland to deliver reliable, validated data tools and clear, evidence-based investigation results within a regulated medical device environment.
A Day in The Life Of:
• Design, develop, test, and maintain Python data-processing services (Azure Functions) that ingest, parse and analyze SmartSync device logs at scale.
• Build and maintain E lastic Stack content on Elastic Cloud , including ingest pipelines, Elastic Common Schema (ECS) mappings, data streams, lifecycle policies, and transforms.
• Administer and evolve the Elastic Cloud platform , including version upgrades, capacity and scaling, security roles, and infrastructure as code.
• Create Kibana dashboards , alerting rules, and monitoring that track data health, ingestion delay, and issue trend.
• Investigate field complaints and issues by analyzing SmartSync logs, implant session data, and device information to determine root cause.
• Write clear investigation summaries and reports that support complaint handling, CAPAs, health hazard evaluations, and FDA summary reporting.
• Automate recurring investigations with Python scripts and issue detection rules so issues are found earlier and more consistently.
• Release and deploy the teams tools through Azure DevOps pipelines and Octopus Deploy, and complete the method validation and documentation required in a regulated environment.
• Partner with R&D, quality, complaint handling, and field teams to turn questions from the field into data, tools, and answers.
• Mentor and coach engineers, fostering a collaborative, learning focused team environment.
