US H-1B: cap-subject employers enter a lottery weighted by wage level — Level I gets 1 entry, Level IV gets 4 (DHS projected selection odds ≈15% at Level I to ≈61% at Level IV). About the role
Hover helps people design, improve, and protect the properties they love. With proprietary AI built on over a decade of real property data, Hover answers age-old questions like “What will it look like?” and “What will it cost?” Homeowners, contractors, and insurance professionals rely on Hover to get fully measured, accurate, and interactive 3D models of any property — all from a smartphone scan in minutes.
At Hover, we’re driven by curiosity, purpose, and a shared commitment to serving our customers, communities, and each other. We believe the best ideas come from diverse perspectives and are proud to cultivate an inclusive, high-performance culture that inspires growth, accountability, and excellence. Backed by leading investors like Google Ventures and Menlo Ventures, and trusted by industry leaders including Travelers, State Farm, and Nationwide — we’re redefining how people understand and interact with their spaces.
Why Hover wants you
Mobile is where Hover's work begins: 300,000+ contractors and insurance pros use the Hover Pro app to scan properties with camera and LiDAR, capture inspections offline, and upload the data behind every Hover 3D model. We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead Mobile Core, the mobile platform team that owns reliability, performance, and developer experience for the app every other mobile team builds on. Your first goal is clear: take crash-free sessions from 99.9% to 99.99% and upload success to 99.99%. This is a player-coach seat on a modern React Native, Expo, and TypeScript stack, where your technical calls set the pace for every mobile team.
You will contribute by
Your first priority is making the Hover Pro app a stable, fast platform. You'll drive toward 99.99% crash-free sessions, turn noisy monitoring into alerts teams act on, and fix the crashes and hangs that affect our largest insurance customers. You'll make contributing to the mobile codebase simple, with faster CI, clear steps, and better testing, and you'll work with feature teams to decide what the platform provides and what each team builds. You'll coach and grow a senior, distributed team and partner closely with our mobile QA lead on test strategy and release quality. Expect about half your week in design and code reviews, debugging, and some coding, about 30% on people leadership, and about 20% on cross-team planning.
• Own reliability and performance for the Hover Pro app, using Sentry fingerprinting, code-owner routing, and device-vitals dashboards to turn metrics into priorities
• Lead architecture decisions across React Native (New Architecture), Expo, TypeScript, and native iOS and Android, including moving our core upload pipeline from React Native to native
• Improve CI/CD, release cadence, on-call, and old-version sunsetting so every mobile team ships faster
• Partner with mobile QA on testability: dev tooling, debug menus, and hooks for AI-assisted end-to-end testing
• Steward shared foundations: the mobile design system, offline data layer, push notifications, yearly iOS and Android readiness, and enterprise needs like Intune and accessibility
• Partner with our Capture SDK team on native SDK adoption, and with backend teams on upload reliability over weak networks
Your background includes
• Deep, hands-on experience shipping a React Native and TypeScript app in production at scale
• Experience leading engineers, as an engineering manager or as a tech lead with people responsibilities such as coaching, hiring, and handling performance
• Enough native iOS and/or Android depth to make sound calls at the boundary: native modules, camera and background tasks, OS lifecycle, and app store releases
• A track record of owning shared mobile foundations that other teams build on, including CI/CD, releas
