About the role
Roles & Responsibilities :
• Identify, trace, and map stock vehicle electrical connections, sensor interfaces, and actuator control lines.
• Benchmark OEM harness interfaces, sensors (analog, digital, PWM, CAN/LIN), and actuators.
• Seamlessly tap into or emulate vehicle control signals without disrupting original vehicle functions.
• Perform comprehensive load and power budgeting analyses across various vehicle operational modes to define system current draw, peak loads, and continuous power consumption.
• Propose, define, and optimize vehicle-level powernet topologies (12 V and HV) to integrate electronic control units (ECUs), sensors, actuators, and telematics systems.
• Author and maintain complete electrical schematics, pinout diagrams, block diagrams, and system architecture drawings using automotive schematic tools (Visio, draw.io, etc.)
• Define specifications for automotive-grade connectors, terminals, protective sleeving, and wire types (FLRY/FLY) suited for harsh automotive environments.
• Calculate precise wire gauge requirements and derive appropriate fuse, circuit breaker, and relay ratings based on consumer electrical loads, thermal limits, and transient conditions.
• Utilize single-board computers and microcontrollers (Raspberry Pi, Arduino, STM32, ESP32, etc.) along with commonly available components from online/offline sources for rapid prototyping of electronics solutions.
• Quickly build proof-of-concept functional models and signal transceivers.
• Apply basic electromagnetic interference/compatibility (EMI/EMC) design principles for harness layout, ground loop prevention, shielding, and transient suppression to ensure reliable operation in high-noise environments.
Educational qualification:
• B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication, Automotive Electronics, or Mechatronics.
Experience :
• 5 - 7 years
Mandatory/required Skills :
• Strong foundational understanding of analog/digital electronics, power electronics, and automotive sensing technology.
• Awareness of basic automotive terminologies for powernet connections, startup and shutdown sequence for electricals and electronics onboard modern vehicles, E/E architectures and their applications.
• Practical knowledge of fusing strategies and options for intelligent power distribution for add-on consumers in test vehicles.
• Practical experience in implementing guardrails such as emergency stop strategies in test vehicles and the best practices in architecture and component selection for the same.
• Hands-on proficiency with diagnostic/measurement tools: Multimeters, Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, and CAN/LIN bus tools (Vector CANoe/CANalyzer, Kvaser, etc.).
• Practical embedded development experience with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or similar prototyping platforms.
• Deep familiarity with automotive relays, fuses, power distribution units (PDUs), and standard automotive connectors (TE, Molex, Aptiv, etc.).
• Awareness of HV safety standards (ISO 6469 / UNECE R100), isolation monitoring, interlocks (HVIL), and safe handling procedures for EV/HEV powertrain integration.
