About the role

SumUp's tax function is scaling to match a business that now spans more than 40 entities. This role is a senior partner to the Head of Tax across the Group's tax agenda. You'll lead the implementation and operationalisation of corporate income tax, transfer pricing, and indirect tax strategy, and you'll help shape the positions and policies behind it. You'll bring your own judgement to the most important topics, from how Pillar Two, CbCR, and ATAD III affect our structure to how we manage tax risk in audits, and you'll help the Head of Tax turn those views into a clear Group direction. This role reports to the Global Head of Tax and will have an impact on SumUp's IPO readiness. What you'll do • Lead delivery of SumUp's tax agenda across corporate income tax, transfer pricing, and indirect tax, within the Group tax strategy set by the Head of Tax • Oversee the transfer pricing framework and its implementation, and propose improvements to both substance and automation • Draft and maintain tax policies, controls, and governance documentation for Group entities, for sign-off by the Head of Tax • Act as the first point of contact for tax authority audits and controversies, keeping the Head of Tax aligned on positions and exposure • Provide independent technical judgement on high-stakes tax positions, challenging assumptions and bringing options and recommendations to the Head of Tax • Partner with Tax Compliance and Tax Operations to keep strategic positions compliant and operationally workable • Lead the Pillar Two and CbCR implementation, turning requirements into practical plans for affected markets • Lead, develop, and prioritise the tax team, and deputise for the Head of Tax when required You'll be great for this role if… • Senior tax experience across corporate income tax, transfer pricing, and indirect tax in a multinational, combining strategic leadership with hands-on technical delivery. You're comfortable working through the detail yourself, from modelling and documentation to reviewing returns, and you don't need to hand every technical question to an adviser. • A track record of building in-house tax expertise, with a preference for developing capability internally and using external advisers selectively, for specialist opinions and peer review rather than day-to-day analysis. • Proven track record developing senior tax team members, including people leadership, prioritisation, and performance development. • Strong knowledge of European corporate income tax, transfer pricing, and cross-border structuring, along with Pillar Two, CbCR, and EU Directives. • Experience leading tax audits and controversies, including extensive direct engagement with tax authorities. • Ability to translate complex regulatory and commercial issues into clear tax positions, communicated confidently to non-tax stakeholders such as finance leadership and auditors. Why you should join SumUp 🌎 Join a global fintech with meaningful complexity, scale, and ambition, and play a visible role in shaping the future of tax at SumUp 🚀 Work on high-impact topics including corporate tax, transfer pricing, structuring, controversy, governance, and international expansion 🤝 Act as a true business partner, helping shape how tax supports product, commercial, and strategic decisions across the company 🌈 Be part of a collaborative and inclusive environment where different perspectives are welcomed and valued 📚 Access opportunities for continuous learning and professional development About SumUp Be empowered to do more that matters.
