About the role
Job Summary:
The Department of Health Policy and Management (HPM) at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is seeking an energetic, organized, and highly motivated individual to support a portfolio of multidisciplinary health policy and health services research projects. The Health Research and Data Analyst will work closely with faculty across HPM on research examining health care delivery, quality, equity, and the effects of health policy and payment reforms. The position will also include opportunities to collaborate with faculty and researchers affiliated with the Healthcare Quality and Outcomes Lab (HqO), a multidisciplinary research group based within HPM.
HPM faculty conduct research using Medicare, Medicaid, commercial and other large national health care datasets to evaluate the effectiveness and unintended consequences of U.S. health reforms and changes in health insurance or health care delivery. Projects bring together physicians, health policy researchers, health economists, biostatisticians, and data scientists from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Harvard-affiliated teaching hospitals.
Research topics may include, but are not limited to:
• Variation in costs, quality, and outcomes across surgical, emergency, hospital, and cancer care
• Quality and outcomes of care for socially vulnerable populations, including low-income beneficiaries dually enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid
• Health care quality, outcomes, and disparities among older adults with HIV
• Effects of alternative payment and delivery models, including Accountable Care Organizations and bundled payment initiatives, on health care value and equity
• Changing market dynamics within the growing Medicare Advantage program, including provider networks, access to care, and insurer and provider behavior
• Climate change and health system resilience
This position is particularly well suited for an individual seeking substantial research experience before pursuing further graduate or professional education, including medical school, doctoral training, or related programs. A central part of the role will be working directly with HPM faculty and research teams across multiple projects, with opportunities to contribute to study design, data analysis, manuscript development, and dissemination of findings.
HPM and HqO faculty are also committed to mentoring and developing the next generation of health policy and health system leaders. The successful candidate will have opportunities for close faculty mentorship, professional development, and increasing research responsibility aligned with their interests and long-term career goals.
