About the role

Job Title: Platform Engineer Location (including hybrid): Melbourne, Australia Salary: $125,000 - $145,000 + Superannuation Team: Platform Engineering Reporting To: Software Engineering Manager Kaluza reimagines energy to bring net-zero within everyone's reach. Our intelligent Platform enables energy utilities to unlock the full value of a radically changing energy system and propel us to a future where renewable energy is sustainable, affordable and accessible for all. From automating and simplifying core operations including billing to create a lower-cost, higher-engagement experience, to optimising energy usage across smart devices in the home, we turn tough challenges into win-win-win outcomes for customers, suppliers and the energy system. We champion a flexible, hybrid work approach and we find that teams often benefit from coming together in the office at least 3 days a week to foster connection and accelerate progress. Outside of these collaborative opportunities, we aim to be as flexible as possible to balance work with life. As a company we come together annually for our conference and end of year celebrations! Our goal is to build a self-sufficient and empowered team here on the ground in Australia. We're well on our way, but until we get there we still have some reliances on our UK team. Being comfortable working flexibly for a portion of your working week to cover time zones is required. What will I be doing? You’ll play a pivotal role in building and evolving our internal developer platform in order to empower our software teams. Your work will impact how our developers use cloud infrastructure, help teams to eliminate infrastructure toil, improve engineering productivity, reinforce security safeguards and constantly strive for greater cost efficiencies in operations. • Engineering Foundations: Engineering a scalable, reliable and developer friendly platform to promote seamless software development, deployment and operations. • Automation & Tooling: Develop tools to abstract the complex aspects of the platform from developers to improve developer experience and operational efficiency. • Infrastructure as Code: Use tools like Terraform, Helm and Crossplane to manage and automate provisioning of all cloud infrastructure and champion GitOps best practices. • Monitoring & Observability: Establish robust monitoring and logging foundations collaborating with the wider Site Reliability Engineering Function. • Security & Reliability: Incorporate security best practices, ensure compliance, and participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota to troubleshoot and prevent recurrent issues. • Stakeholder Coordination: Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate upgrades and hold service providers accountable. About You Ideally you'll have/be: • Experience building and shipping production applications. • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a curiosity to solve problems. • Experience using cloud platforms like AWS (preferred), Google Cloud, or Azure. • A strong desire to (or experience in) creating and maintaining Kubernetes clusters in production. • A solid foundational understanding of distributed systems. • Experience with CI/CD, GitOps, and Infrastructure as Code technologies. Where you'll work We offer flexible working, with a requirement of 3 days a week in the office. This gives us the best of both: real time together to collaborate and build relationships, with the flexibility to work in the way that suits you best the rest of the week. Kaluza Values Here at Kaluza we have five core values that guide us as a business: Play to win, Solve the real problem, Build trust every day, Own the outcome, Go further together From us you'll get Currently,
