US H-1B: cap-subject employers enter a lottery weighted by wage level — Level I gets 1 entry, Level IV gets 4 (DHS projected selection odds ≈15% at Level I to ≈61% at Level IV). Universities and non-profit research employers are cap-exempt. The $100,000 fee for new petitions from abroad is currently blocked by a court order (appeal pending).

Job Description **This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.** Location expectations: This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week. U.S. Bank is seeking a Python Backend Software Engineer to join our Identity and Access Management Automation Team. This role will develop and support backend applications, services, integrations, and automation solutions that reduce manual effort, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen security and compliance processes. This person will serve as a hands-on engineer responsible for building and delivering automation solutions from end to end. The engineer will develop primarily in Python, support existing applications using JavaScript and TypeScript, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and help transform manual identity and access processes into reliable, code-driven workflows. The role is best suited for someone who enjoys understanding how systems work, independently solving problems, and owning software through development, implementation, and ongoing support. Main Responsibilities: • Design, develop, test, and maintain backend automation solutions using Python. • Build services, APIs, and integrations supporting identity and access management workflows. • Develop automated solutions for privileged-access and local-administrator-access processes. • Support applications and integrations built around HashiCorp Vault and related IAM technologies. • Replace manual and cumbersome processes with scalable, code-driven workflows. • Troubleshoot application errors, integration failures, and production issues. • Perform software enhancements, bug fixes, maintenance, and patching. • Work with team members and business partners to identify processes that can be streamlined through automation. • Apply sound software design, architecture, testing, and development practices. • Deliver solutions that support operational efficiency, risk reduction, compliance, and cost avoidance. • Contribute to future opportunities involving cloud automation, artificial intelligence, and large language models. Must Have Skills: • Strong professional Python development experience, including building and maintaining backend applications or services. • Experience designing, developing, testing, and supporting production software. • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including application design, architecture, testing, debugging, and maintainable code. • Demonstrated experience independently troubleshooting technical problems and researching root causes. • Experience developing APIs, integrations, automation workflows, internal tools, or backend services. • Experience with JavaScript and/or TypeScript. • Ability to take ownership of technical solutions and deliver working software, rather than only providing recommendations. • Curiosity, initiative, and the ability to learn unfamiliar systems and technologies. Nice to Have Skills: • Docker experience. • AWS or other cloud-platform experience. • Identity and Access Management experience. • HashiCorp Vault or other secrets-management platform experience. • Experience with privileged-access or access-management workflows. • Full-stack application-development
