About the role
About Modo Energy
The energy transition is the biggest infrastructure buildout in human history. Modo Energy is the data platform at the centre of it.
We build the benchmarking, forecasting, and valuation tools that the world's most serious energy investors, developers, and operators depend on to make decisions. If a battery gets financed, built, or traded anywhere in the world, there's a good chance Modo Energy's data was in the room.
Founded in 2019, we're 90+ people across London, New York, Sydney, and Madrid; $30M Series B, AI-native, and moving fast.
This is a rare chance to join a category-defining company at the moment it's scaling globally.
The Role
We're hiring a Global Gas Analyst to build an entirely new function at Modo Energy and to become the face of it while you do.
Modo Energy already gives 200+ clients the clearest read on battery and power markets anywhere. Gas sits upstream of almost all of it, and right now nobody owns that picture. This role is about building it from scratch: the models, the data, the forecasts, and the research that show our clients how gas is moving and what it means for their portfolios.
As our Global Gas Analyst, you’ll design the process, put your name on the output, and prove what good looks like. If you've got the market knowledge and you're itching for the chance to build something that's genuinely yours with the autonomy, ownership, and client-facing visibility that a bigger company can't offer, this is that chance.
This is a global role, based in London and reporting to the Director of European Product.
What You'll Be Doing
• Build Modo's gas analytics capability from the ground up, including long term gas forecasts out to 2050 to 2060 and core datasets covering United States and European gas storage, LNG, and global production.
• Publish research that lands with our audience. You'll be judged on the strength of your models and on whether people actually read your work.
• Get in front of clients directly to explain what's happening in gas markets and what it means for their portfolios.
• Feed your gas view into Modo's regional power and storage models, working alongside the team as part of our new Global Analytics group (gas and supply chain).
What We're Looking For
The Essentials
• 3 to 4 years of experience in gas analytics, from a major commodities house (e.g. Argus, Bloomberg), a gas trading desk, or similar, with enough market knowledge to work independently from day one. This is a sweet spot role: enough experience to have real judgement, not so much that you've already moved into management.
• Must have U.S. gas experience
• An entrepreneurial, self starter mindset. You'll be building this largely on your own, so you need to be comfortable setting your own direction rather than waiting to be told what to do.
• Something that makes you stand out. That could be a strong academic record, a name brand employer, or a serious personal pursuit. The common thread we're looking for is someone who has shown they can commit to something and see it through to mastery.
• Working knowledge of data analytics and coding (Python, databases). Modern AI tools have taken some of the weight off this. Deep gas market fluency is the rarer skill, and the one that will set you apart.
• The confidence to hold your own in client conversations. You'll be the person clients turn to when they want to understand gas.
Nice To Have
• Experience building or maintaining market forecasting models, whether in gas or an adjacent commodity. It shows you can take a forecast from a blank page to something clients rely on, which is exactly what this role asks of you.
• Some grounding in coal markets. Coal and gas compete for the same slot on the power stack, so understanding one sharpens your
