- H-1B has no fixed salary bar: the employer must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role and area. Cap-subject employers enter a lottery weighted by wage level. US H-1B: cap-subject employers enter a lottery weighted by wage level — Level I gets 1 entry, Level IV gets 4 (DHS projected selection odds ≈15% at Level I to ≈61% at Level IV). Universities and non-profit research employers are cap-exempt. The $100,000 fee for new petitions from abroad is currently blocked by a court order (appeal pending).

About the role
Slingshot AI
Slingshot AI is the team behind Ash, the first AI designed for mental health. Our mission is to make support more accessible and help people change their lives in the ways they want.
We’re building a world-class team by empowering individuals with the autonomy, flexibility, and support they need to do their best work. We dream big, iterate fast, and care deeply. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
Our team spans machine learning, product, engineering, conversational design, clinical, growth, and operations, with offices in both New York City and London.
We're a well-funded Series A company, having raised $93M from Andreessen Horowitz, Radical Ventures, Forerunner Ventures, plus top-tier tech investors involved in ElevenLabs, Captions, Shopify, Plaid, Notion, Canva, Twitch, Airtable, and many others.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Experienced clinicians know, moment by moment, where a conversation needs to go. You notice what someone isn't quite saying, you have a view on what would help, and you can explain why. We'd value your judgement on how Ash should handle those moments.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Review anonymised conversations with Ash and judge, as a clinician, whether it's handling key moments well: what it should do, what could go wrong, and why. Your reasoning matters more than polished wording. You won't be in contact with users. You'll work alongside a small group of experienced clinicians and help shape what "great" looks like in an Ash conversation. Where clinicians disagree, that's useful too: it tells us a moment is genuinely nuanced.
YOU MIGHT BE A GREAT FIT IF
- You're a licensed or registered clinician with 3+ years of client work since qualifying.
- In the UK: an HCPC-registered practitioner psychologist, or a counsellor or psychotherapist on a PSA-accredited register (e.g. BACP, UKCP, NCPS).
- In the US: an independent license such as psychologist, LCSW, LPC, LMHC or LMFT.
- You have a clear sense of what you'd do in a session, and you can put your reasoning into words.
- You've supervised, trained or mentored other clinicians.
- You care more about what helps the person in front of you than about following a protocol.
- You write clearly in English.
- No technical background needed, but personal experience using AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude will help.
WHY JOIN
- Meaningful work. Help shape something that could change how mental health support works for millions of people. Every morning the team sees messages from people calling Ash "life changing."
- Your judgement, not a checklist. We think what sets great practitioners apart matters more than any single protocol. We want your view, including where it differs from others'.
- Flexible and remote. Fits around your clinical work.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Apply (about 2 minutes). Share your LinkedIn or a professional profile.
2. We read every application, on a rolling basis.
3. If you're shortlisted for the first group, we'll be in touch by Friday 6 November about next steps, including a paid sample task of about an hour.
4. Join the group. You'll work 5–20 hours a week, on your own schedule. $100–140/hour in the US or £70–100/hour in the UK, based on experience.
All conversations are anonymised before review. Some touch on emotionally difficult topics, including risk. This is a freelance contractor role, with no employee benefits.
