About the role
At Allstate, great things happen when our people work together to protect families and their belongings from life’s uncertainties. And for more than 90 years, our innovative drive has kept us a step ahead of our customers’ evolving needs. From advocating for seat belts, air bags and graduated driving laws, to being an industry leader in pricing sophistication, telematics, and, more recently, device and identity protection.
Your role in the team
Technology Operations, Risk & Compliance (TORC) is ACC’s first-line operating system for controls, risk management and remediation, compliance, and resilience. TORC operates at the intersection of cybersecurity, technology operations, risk, controls, compliance, resilience, and enterprise transformation, turning ACC priorities and enterprise obligations into measurable controls, actionable intelligence, accountability, and sustained risk reduction.
TORC is entering the next phase of that evolution: engineering risk and control capabilities that operate at enterprise scale. A cornerstone of this work is the Unified System of Controls (USC), a strategic ACC product intended to provide a sustainable command-and-control capability for controls, bringing together control expectations, procedures, measurement, evidence, reporting, exceptions, ownership, and accountability. The Principal Engineer will help build the engineering function required to make that ambition real.
The Principal Engineer, TORC Engineering is a highly senior technology leadership role responsible for building and leading TORC's engineering capability and driving the engineering execution of significant ACC strategic products, beginning with the Unified System of Controls.
The Principal Engineer will translate established strategy, product direction, architectural standards, and business requirements into executable engineering solutions. The role works within Allstate's architecture guardrails and partners with the appropriate Architecture functions on architectural direction and decisions.
The role will also establish close engineering partnerships with Product Security (ProdSec) and Security Operations (SecOps) across ACC, leveraging and integrating their capabilities into TORC products where appropriate and avoiding creation of parallel security engineering capabilities.
Key responsibilities:
Engineering Leadership & Capability Building
• Build and lead TORC’s engineering organization, including talent, operating model, engineering practices, and technical capability.
• Establish a high-performance engineering culture focused on quality, security, automation, reliability, observability, and continuous improvement.
• Develop future engineering leaders and create scalable, reusable engineering capabilities across the organization.
Unified System of Controls (USC) Delivery
• Provide engineering leadership for the USC platform, delivering scalable solutions for control measurement, reporting, workflow, evidence management, and decision support.
• Drive the transition from manual, point-in-time controls to automated, continuous, and data-driven capabilities.
• Ensure solutions are secure, reliable, interoperable, and built for enterprise scale.
Strategy-to-Execution Leadership
• Partner with Product and Architecture leaders to translate strategic priorities into engineering roadmaps and delivery plans.
• Guide technical implementation decisions, balancing scalability, feasibility, risk, and business outcomes.
• Provide engineering expertise throughout product discovery, planning, and execution.
Executive & Organizational Leadership
• Make sound decisions on complex technical and business challenges.
• Influence and communicate effectively with senior leaders and stakeholders across Allstate.
