About the role
Summary
We are looking for an AI Engineer / Applied AI Scientist to help design, build, and deploy enterprise-scale Generative AI solutions that accelerate scientific, regulatory, and business processes.
You will build intelligent applications powered by large language models (LLMs) , retrieval systems, knowledge graphs, agentic workflows, and advanced analytics. You will work closely with data scientists, statisticians, software engineers, domain experts, and business stakeholders to transform complex scientific and operational data into practical, production-ready AI solutions.
As part of the R&D organization, the team also contributes to applied research, providing opportunities to contribute to scientific publications and conference presentations.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and deploy Generative AI applications using modern LLM frameworks and technologies.
• Build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines for enterprise knowledge retrieval.
• Develop agentic workflows for document processing, scientific applications, and research support.
• Integrate AI services and third-party APIs into enterprise platforms and production-ready applications.
• Build reliable, maintainable Python applications and services around AI capabilities.
• Experiment with AI-assisted software development tools, such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub, and internal Pfizer tools, to accelerate application development.
• Evaluate emerging AI models, tools, and frameworks and assess their applicability to real-world use cases.
• Contribute to applied research projects, including scientific publications and conference submissions.
• Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to translate business and scientific needs into effective AI solutions.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative or technical field.
• Relevant industry, academic, or research experience in software development, machine learning, data science, or AI (e.g., BSc with ~3 years of experience or MSc with ~1 year).
• Programming in Python.
• Working knowledge of core Generative AI concepts and architectures, including LLMs, RAG, and AI agents.
• Ability to independently develop and iterate on technical prototypes and turn ideas into working solutions.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with some of the following:
• REST API design and integration.
• React or other modern front-end frameworks.
• Vector & SQL databases.
• Git and GitHub development workflows.
• Linux environments.
• AWS or another major cloud platform.
• LLM evaluation, observability, or testing.
• Docker and containerized applications.
• Scientific, healthcare, pharmaceutical, or other regulated environments.
What We Value
• Accountability - You take ownership of your work and, with appropriate support and context, can turn ideas into working prototypes and solutions.
• Adaptability - Generative AI is evolving quickly. You're comfortable learning new concepts, tools, models, and frameworks and applying them pragmatically.
• Curiosity - You're excited to experiment and explore new technologies rather than waiting for someone to tell you exactly what to try.
• Collaboration - You communicate clearly and can work effectively with colleagues from scientific, statistical, engineering, and business backgrounds.
• Enjoyment - We enjoy the work we do, collaborate openly, and try not to take ourselves too seriously all the times. That's still one area where the agents haven't caught up.
