About the role
THE OPPORTUNITY
Are you interested in leading the team that develops the embedded software at the heart of NavVis mobile mapping products?
As a Team Lead Embedded Software , you will lead and grow a team working across ARM Linux systems, bare-metal firmware and Python-based tooling. Your team owns software close to the hardware, from microcontrollers responsible for power management, sensor synchronization, and I/O through to Linux-based systems, low level kernel drivers , and tooling used by Electrical Engineering and Production.
You will combine people leadership with strong technical ownership . Working closely with Electrical Engineering, System Software, Product, Production, Quality, and Support, you will help define technical direction, establish priorities, and make clear trade-offs between scope, quality, and timelines. You will remain close enough to the technology to review architecture and designs, unblock complex problems, and contribute during critical phases such as new-platform bring-up.
This is a hybrid role, with an expectation of three days onsite each week.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
•
Lead and develop the Embedded Software team , supporting engineers through regular feedback, growth planning, performance management, hiring, and onboarding
•
Own the team's technical direction and architecture across ARM Linux systems, kernel drivers, bare-metal and RTOS firmware and Python-based engineering and production tooling
•
Shape the team roadmap and priorities together with Electrical Engineering, System Software, Product, Production, Quality, and Support, making technical and delivery trade-offs transparent
•
Drive strong embedded software engineering practices , including architecture reviews, automated testing, hardware-in-the-loop setups, build systems, CI/CD, firmware packaging, and deployment
•
Guide the team through complex technical challenges , reviewing designs and code, removing blockers, and contributing directly where deep technical expertise is needed
•
Improve the reliability and maintainability of embedded systems by reducing knowledge silos and single points of failure across firmware and tooling
•
Build strong interfaces between Embedded Software and adjacent teams, translating product and system requirements into clear technical plans
•
Support successful new hardware platform bring-up , ensuring software architecture, testing, and integration evolve alongside the hardware
WHAT WILL HELP YOU SUCCEED IN THE ROLE
•
Significant experience in embedded software engineering on real hardware , including substantial experience working closely with Electrical Engineering teams
•
Strong technical expertise in embedded C and C++ , including kernel and driver, bare-metal cortex M or RTOS environments, together with solid Linux fundamentals
•
Hands-on experience with Linux-based embedded systems , including areas such as user-space or kernel-space drivers, cross-compilation, toolchains, device trees, or system bring-up
•
Practical experience with Python for engineering tooling or test automation , alongside modern build, CI/CD, and automated testing practices
•
Experience leading and developing engineers , either through formal people management or substantial technical leadership, with the ability to give clear feedback, set priorities, and support individual growth
•
Strong architectural and cross-functional communication skills, with experience defining software architecture, deployment, and testing strategies and aligning teams around them
Nice to Have
•
Experience working with MIPI cameras and image sensors
•
Experience with over-the-air firmware deployment or provisioning tools , such as Ansible, NIX
•
Knowledge of high-speed hardware interfaces such as USB 3.x, MIPI CSI-2, MIPI DSI,
