US H-1B: cap-subject employers enter a lottery weighted by wage level — Level I gets 1 entry, Level IV gets 4 (DHS projected selection odds ≈15% at Level I to ≈61% at Level IV). Universities and non-profit research employers are cap-exempt. The $100,000 fee for new petitions from abroad is currently blocked by a court order (appeal pending).

About the role
About the Team
The Consulting team is part of OpenAI’s Enterprise Verticals organization. Our goal is to help consulting teams do better work for their clients. We work side by side with design partners to understand how their teams operate, then use what we learn to build for consultants everywhere.
Today, we’re bringing OpenAI’s models and products together to accelerate the core work of consulting, from investigating a client’s question to delivering advice they can act on. We’re starting by removing the barriers that keep consultants from using AI in their day-to-day work. We’ll draw on the full range of OpenAI’s capabilities, from ChatGPT Work to newer tools such as Dots and Spaces.
Longer term, we want to help firms develop AI-native ways of working. A team could design an engagement around questions it can now afford to explore, test several strategies with its client, and change course as it learns what works. We’re moving quickly, working across OpenAI’s research, product, and engineering teams to turn what we learn with design partners into products consultants everywhere can use.
About the Role
We’re looking for a full-stack software engineer to build first-party OpenAI products for consulting. You’ll own features end to end, from the frontend interfaces consultants use to the backend services and integrations that power them.
You’ll work closely with our consulting design partners and with colleagues across product, design, research, and engineering at OpenAI. Together, you’ll turn what you learn from individual engagement teams into products we can distribute broadly. Success will ultimately be defined by adoption and the value generated for consulting firms.
In this role, you will:
- Work directly with our design partners. Sit with consultants and engagement leaders, observe how they work, and identify problems worth solving across firms.
- Design and prototype experiences that help consultants do an important part of their job better from day one.
- Build across the stack, from the user interface to the services and APIs that connect OpenAI’s models with the tools consultants use.
- Build for firms with different methods and working environments while protecting the confidential information clients entrust to them.
- Evaluate what you build with design partners and researchers. Use real assignments to see where it improves the work and what still needs to change.
- Ship the product to consulting teams broadly and own its rollout and reliability. Use feedback and production data to guide improvements after launch.
You might thrive in this role if you:
- Have shipped and operated a substantial product, with hands-on ownership across frontend and backend systems.
- Have strong product and interface instincts, especially when people need to understand, question, or correct what software produces.
- Enjoy working directly with users and can tell when one customer’s request points to a problem many people share.
- Can turn an unfamiliar workflow into a working prototype, then make the technical choices it takes to support many teams.
- Make thoughtful tradeoffs about quality, speed, and reliability and can explain those choices to colleagues across disciplines.
Nice to Have
- Firsthand consulting experience combined with hands-on experience building and shipping software.
- Building software for research, analysis, collaboration, or other complex professional work.
- Developing AI applications and evaluating their usefulness with expert users.
- Designing enterprise products that handle sensitive information or fit into different organizations’ ways of working.
- Taking a product from its first few users to broad adoption as a founder or early engineer.
