- 1 certified filing for “Senior Scientist II, Biologics Analytical R&D” (Biochemists and Biophysicists) in MA: $155k–$155k, median $155k. Most were filed at wage level III (100%) — 3 lottery entries, ≈46% projected selection odds for cap-subject employers. Source: US Department of Labor LCA disclosure data (Oct 2025 – Jun 2026).
US H-1B: cap-subject employers enter a lottery weighted by wage level — Level I gets 1 entry, Level IV gets 4 (DHS projected selection odds ≈15% at Level I to ≈61% at Level IV). Universities and non-profit research employers are cap-exempt. The $100,000 fee for new petitions from abroad is currently blocked by a court order (appeal pending).

About the role
AbbVie's Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine, Protein Sciences Group, is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated scientist to join our Biomolecular Interaction Team. This role offers the opportunity to make significant contributions to all Discovery Research Therapeutic Areas and Projects by providing analytical and functional characterization of our biopharmaceutical products, including monoclonal antibodies, multi-specifics and antibody-like biologics. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of high-throughput biologics screening and characterization methods (e.g., SPR, BLI, ELISA, FACS, etc.) and possess a solid foundation in protein sciences and antibody discovery with a proven ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated scientist to make a meaningful impact in a collaborative and innovative setting. Join us in bringing innovative medicines to patients!
Key Responsibilities:
• Independently develop and execute SPR (Biacore and Carterra platforms) assays to generate objective selection criteria for panels of antibodies, multispecifics, and antibody-like biologics.
• Evaluate and integrate protein-protein interaction technologies (e.g., SPR, BLI, ELISA, etc.) to support therapeutic candidate selection, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills.
• Implement high-throughput epitope binning for large panels of monoclonal antibodies and develop deep knowledge of antibody sequence/function relationships.
• Perform antibody Fc characterization studies to support regulatory submissions.
• Identify and solve technical problems independently; explore and develop new approaches to further advance innovative characterization and screening technologies.
• Serve as a biologics lead for cross-functional teams and contribute scientific insights into multiple projects across various therapeutic areas; recognized and sought out as an expert in biomolecular interactions within the company and externally.
• Provide project updates, analysis and advice to cross-functional teams and senior management.
• Present original work internally across departments and at internal/external scientific conferences; may author or co-author peer-reviewed scientific papers or patents.
• PhD, MS or BS in Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering or related field with typically 0-4 years (PhD), 8+ years (MS), or 10+ years (BS) of experience.
• Experience in analytical/functional characterization of biologics using Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) platforms (e.g., Biacore and Carterra).
• Experience of high throughput biologics screening with biochemical, biophysical, and cell-based methods.
• Possessing broad technical knowledge of a variety of analytical, biophysical, and structural methods, such as SEC, MS, HDX-MS, X-ray crystallography, DSF, DLS, etc. is a plus.
• Extensive knowledge in related functional areas, such as protein structure and function, antibody engineering, protein production and analytics is a plus.
