ROLE DESCRIPTION
Form's Advanced Product Development team is responsible for architecting and designing the next generation of our iron-air battery system — the cell, module, pack, and the support systems that keep them running reliably for decades in the field. We work ahead of our production programs, translating breakthrough electrochemistry and system requirements into electrical, controls, and test systems that can scale to high-volume manufacturing.
We're hiring an Electrical Engineer II to design, build, troubleshoot, and test the control systems and test assets that support development of our next generation of iron-air batteries. As part of our Advanced Product Development team in Somerville, MA, you will spend much of your time in the lab: wiring and commissioning control systems, bringing up new hardware, diagnosing electrical and controls faults, and running system-level tests. You will work with guidance from senior electrical engineers and alongside mechanical and systems engineers and technicians to turn test requirements into safe, reliable, well-documented hardware. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver our sustainable multi-day energy storage solution to the grid!
Relocation assistance is available.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Design, build, wire, and check out control systems for test assets, working from schematics and BOMs through fabrication and documentation.
- Troubleshoot electrical and controls issues on test assets and prototype hardware, finding root causes with scopes, meters, and data logs and implementing fixes.
- Bring up and commission new test assets in the lab, including point-to-point checkout, sensor and instrument verification, and functional testing of safety interlocks.
- Plan and run system-level tests: write test procedures, collect and review data, and report results and issues to the team.
- Program and modify PLC and HMI logic for test assets with guidance from senior engineers, and keep eCAD schematics, BOMs, and cable/harness documentation current.
- Partner with mechanical, systems, and test engineers and technicians on tight timelines, and champion lab and electrical safety when in
