You will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC lathes to manufacture critical aerospace components, including valve parts, pump components, and shafts.
Working from engineering drawings and manufacturing instructions, you will create and adjust programs directly at the machine, select tooling, prepare setups, and perform turning operations. You will machine materials such as stainless steel, aluminium, titanium, and Inconel, ensuring that parts meet dimensional and surface finish requirements.
The role focuses on hands-on machining and programming at the CNC control. English communication skills are expected for everyday exchanges with our international teams.
Your Responsibilities
• Create, modify, and optimise CNC turning programs directly at the machine.
• Set up CNC lathes, including workholding, cutting tools, and tool offsets.
• Perform turning operations independently, from initial setup through to finished parts.
• Select suitable cutting tools and machining parameters for each material and operation.
• Manufacture precision components to drawing specifications, including tight tolerances and surface finish requirements.
• Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using appropriate measuring equipment.
• Adjust programs, offsets, and cutting parameters to maintain quality throughout production.
• Use the band saw to prepare raw material when required.
• Follow manufacturing instructions and record inspection results to maintain traceability.
• Carry out first-level maintenance and keep machines and workstations clean and organised.
• Report machining issues and provide practical feedback to the workshop lead and engineering teams.
Your Profile
• Vocational or technical qualification in machining, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience as a CNC turner, with the ability to set up machines and program directly at the CNC control.
• Proficiency in ISO/G-code and/or conversational programming.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret dimensional tolerances, geometric tolerances, and surface finish requirements.
• Experience machining stainless steel, aluminium, titanium, or nickel-based alloys.
• Confidence using precision measuring instruments and checking your own work.
• Experience with driven tooling and Y-axis operations and mill turn would be an advantage.
• Autonomous, practical, and quality-focused, with careful attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate in English with colleagues from other teams.
Why You’ll Love Working With Us?
• A hands-on role with responsibility for your parts, from setup and programming through to final inspection.
• Direct involvement in manufacturing components for next-generation space vehicles and propulsion systems.
• A modern workshop producing varied and technically challenging parts.
• Opportunities to develop your machining skills within a growing manufacturing team.
• A multicultural, international team passionate about space exploration.
