About the role
About Us
At algo1, we are reinventing one of the world’s most familiar experiences: the in-store grocery trip. We are building an AI-native product that understands each shopper, responds to their context in real time and makes an everyday experience less stressful, more personal and more engaging.
We’re backed by leading investors and founded by two entrepreneurs: one with a track record of building companies, and the other a leader in retail data and shopper analytics. Together, they have brought together frontier AI researchers and engineers, product and strategy leaders, and senior operators from major UK and US grocery businesses.
The people who join now will have an opportunity to shape the product, the engineering culture, and what algo1 becomes.
The Role
This role reports to our Chief of Staff and works closely with our leadership team and hiring managers across the business. It is part-time and currently set at two days per week (0.4FTE).
You’ll keep our people operations running smoothly as we grow, from the moment a candidate accepts an offer to the everyday policies, systems and reporting that help our team do their best work. You’ll make sure the details are right, the paperwork is compliant, and every new joiner gets a great first impression of algo1.
What You’ll Own
• Support our hiring process. Coordinate the admin behind every hire, keeping candidates and hiring managers informed and making sure nothing falls through the cracks between offer and first day.
• Manage right to work and visas. Carry out right to work checks, manage visa and sponsorship processes, and keep accurate, compliant records.
• Prepare offers and contracts. Customise offer letters and employment contracts for each new hire, and manage the signing process through DocuSign.
• Maintain people policies and processes. Keep our policies and processes up to date, and communicate them clearly so everyone knows how things work and where to find them.
• Run our people systems. Look after our people systems and the data within them, keeping records accurate and processes efficient.
• Building a great place to work. Contribute ideas and energy to the culture, engagement and employee experience initiatives that make algo1 a great place to work.
• Support the Chief of Staff. Take on a variety of projects for our Chief of Staff, from operational improvements to one-off initiatives across the business.

• Systems confidence. Comfort working with HR systems, e-signature tools like DocuSign, and spreadsheets to keep data accurate and produce reports.
• Clear communication. The ability to write and explain policies and processes in a way that is friendly, clear and easy to follow.

• Sponsor licence knowledge. Familiarity with managing a UK Skilled Worker sponsor licence and its reporting duties.
• HR qualification e.g.CIPD.
• AI and automation curiosity. An interest in using AI tools to streamline admin and improve people processes.
