As an engineer at Lyft, you'll collaborate with teams like product, data science, analytics, and operations on code that empower us to iterate quickly, while focusing on delighting our passengers and drivers. About the Team: The Business Travel team enable organizations to provide customized ride benefits at scale - whether that's employees expensing business trips and earning rewards. As a backend engineer, you'll build systems that power complex benefit rules, location restrictions, and integrations with expense providers like Concur and Expensify. This is a high-growth area for Lyft with meaningful impact potential. Responsibilities: • Write well-crafted, well-tested, readable, maintainable code • Have the ability to explain the various trade offs made in decisions • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and distribute knowledge • Implement tasks with good quality code leading to positive execution • Participate in resolving ongoing incidents • Unblock, support, effectively communicate, and obtain buy-in within your team to achieve results Experience: • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of designing and shipping production systems at scale • Strong system design instincts — you can reason through distributed systems trade-offs, identify failure modes, and choose the right architecture for the problem • Practical experience with AI development to improve product experiences • Hands-on experience with large-scale, fault-tolerant distributed systems in a cloud environment (AWS, GCP, or Azure) • Proficiency in object-oriented programming; experience with the languages and frameworks used in our stack is a plus • Solid foundations in relational and NoSQL databases — data modeling, query optimization, and operational considerations • Experience in finance including expensing or travel platforms is a strong plus • Fin Tech experience is a strong plus • Clear communicator who can explain technical decisions in writing, in design reviews, and across teams • BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience Benefits: • Great medical, dental, and vision insurance options with additional programs available when enrolled • Mental health benefits • Family building benefits • Child care and pet benefits • 401(k) plan with company match to help save for your future • In addition to 12 observed holidays, salaried team members have discretionary paid time off, hourly team members have 15 days paid time off • 18 weeks of paid parental leave.
