US H-1B: cap-subject employers enter a lottery weighted by wage level — Level I gets 1 entry, Level IV gets 4 (DHS projected selection odds ≈15% at Level I to ≈61% at Level IV). Universities and non-profit research employers are cap-exempt. The $100,000 fee for new petitions from abroad is currently blocked by a court order (appeal pending).

Our ideal partners possess a nuanced command of market-specific nuances and consumer expectations. We value linguists who excel at software localization and brand storytelling, ensuring every string is clear, consistent, and culturally impactful. What You'll Deliver • Precision in UX and Technical Content. Adapt complex software interfaces and support documentation with total accuracy, ensuring terminological rigor and a seamless experience for native Wolof users. • Impactful Marketing Localization. Transform global campaigns and brand voices to hit home in the Wolof-speaking market, maintaining the original creative spirit while maximizing local relevance. • Polished Product and E-commerce Copy. Localize product and UI listings applying regional naming logic and formatting standards. • Brand Integrity and Quality Assurance. Uphold elite quality benchmarks to provide engaging, audience-centric content aligned with brand identity. • Agile Team Collaboration. Coordinate with our production and quality leads to execute high-stakes projects on schedule and within client specifications. Qualifications • Native-level proficiency in Wolof. • A graduate qualification in translation, linguistics, or language studies, OR a graduate qualification in another field plus 2 years of full-time professional translation experience, OR 5 years of full-time professional translation experience. • The ability to follow terminology and reference materials precisely. • Proven professional experience in translation and localization within marketing, UI/software, or e-commerce content. • Experience with app or platform localization (mobile UI, social media, or web content) preferred. Why Collaborate with LILT? • Your schedule, your rules. As an independent contractor, work when you want, as much or as little as you want. No fixed hours, no check-ins, no micromanaging. • Get paid quickly and fairly. Competitive rates, prompt payments, no chasing invoices. • Work on projects that actually matter. Contribute to cutting-edge AI and language technology shaping how humans and machines communicate. • Be part of something bigger. Join a global community of linguists, subject matter experts, and language professionals advancing human knowledge together. • Grow without limits. Access diverse, innovative projects that expand your portfolio and sharpen your skills across industries and domains. • Have fun doing what you love. Bring your language skills to life on projects that are as interesting as they are impactful. What to Consider Before Applying • Not ideal as a full-time job or primary income source. Work availability fluctuates with project demand; as a 1099 contractor, you won't receive benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, or retirement contributions, and hours are not guaranteed. • Requires reliable availability and commitment. Most tasks require a minimum of 2 hours per day or 10 hours per week. • Geographic restrictions may apply. We cannot engage contractors in regions subject to international embargo or sanctions. As a 1099 contractor, you are solely responsible for your own tax obligations. How to Join Our Expert Community • Submit your application, including an updated copy of your CV in English. • If a test is required, you will be asked to take a test in the domain(s) you specialize in. • Once selected and you've passed the test, we'll guide you through onboarding — completing an application form, getting you set up for payments, and welcoming you into our community.
