Locations: Milford, Michigan Warren, Michigan About the Role General Motors is seeking a Radar Hardware Development Engineer Intern to support the development and evaluation of advanced radar hardware for next-generation vehicle safety and automated-driving capabilities. You will gain hands-on experience with radar electronics, RF signal chains, sensor architecture, hardware bring-up, laboratory testing, vehicle integration, and validation. Working with experienced hardware engineers, the Munich radar team, and cross-functional partners across GM, you will contribute to design reviews, bench testing, troubleshooting, data analysis, and technical documentation for complex automotive sensing systems. Key Responsibilities • Support radar hardware development through requirements review, interface definition, design reviews, verification, validation, and issue tracking. • Assist with reviews of schematics, PCB layouts, RF front ends, antennas, signal chains, power, embedded compute, thermal behavior, diagnostics, and hardware interfaces. • Set up and execute bench, laboratory, environmental, simulation, and vehicle-integration tests using appropriate instrumentation and documented procedures. • Support hardware bring-up and troubleshooting by taking measurements, analyzing results, reproducing issues, and documenting root-cause findings. • Evaluate engineering data to assess hardware and sensor performance, identify trends, and support design or corrective-action decisions. • Assist with investigations involving signal integrity, power, thermal performance, electromagnetic compatibility, reliability, interfaces, and other hardware behaviors. • Collaborate with firmware, embedded software, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, supplier, and vehicle-integration teams to resolve issues and assess design maturity. • Contribute to technical documentation, including requirements, design decisions, test results, validation evidence, risk assessments, issue logs, and lessons learned. Required Qualifications • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical discipline. • Available for an engineering internship or co-op during the applicable term. • Coursework, project, research, or laboratory experience in electronics, RF engineering, radar, antennas, signal processing, embedded systems, circuit design, or automotive systems. • Familiarity with circuits, technical requirements, hardware interfaces, testing, measurement, debugging, and data analysis. • Experience with Python, MATLAB, or a similar scripting or analysis environment. • Ability to interpret basic schematics, technical requirements, test procedures, or engineering drawings. • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to learn quickly, ask effective technical questions, and work hands-on in laboratory or test environments.
