Location: Our office is located in Oxford, England (UK), with hybrid working Job ID: 1820 The Role: We are looking for a Senior Electronics Engineer to join our Reliability Engineering team at IonQ. In this role, you will be responsible for finding, root-causing, and permanently resolving electronics and control hardware issues on our operational trapped-ion quantum computers, contributing to the team's mission of improving fleet uptime and driving down the operational cost of our commercial and development systems. You'll play an important part in owning the full lifecycle of electrical reliability fixes — from identifying a real-world bottleneck through to standardizing the resulting fix into every future build — working closely with Operations, Science, Manufacturing, and Engineering to keep our quantum systems running reliably and effectively. Responsibilities : In this position, you will work on root-causing, designing, and deploying electronics system design fixes across our fleet of quantum systems, supporting the effective delivery of reliable, development and production hardware . You'll have the opportunity to drive system upgrades, standardize control and drive electronics across systems, and build the observability that catches problems before they cause downtime , contributing directly to the success of the Reliability Engineering team . Key responsibilities include: • Triage & root cause: Actively monitor, root-cause, and prioritize electrical, control-system, and drive-electronics issues on live systems based on severity and impact to uptime and performance. • Solution development: Design, prototype, build, and test electrical fixes — spanning schematic capture, PCB layout, and board- and system-level test — taking solutions from concept through to permanent integration. • Reliability upgrade leadership: Drive electrical workstreams for major fleet-wide upgrades (e.g. control-hardware consolidation, drive-electronics standardization, remote telemetry/monitoring for laser and system health) to reduce variance and downtime across systems. • Retrofitting & deployment: Coordinate directly with Operations and Science teams to schedule, deploy, and retrofit upgrades onto live systems while managing operational constraints, and verify fixes improve system performance, reliability or operability. • Documentation & standardization : Feed validated fixes back into engineering documentation, build manifests, and the Engineering Change Request (ECR) process so every improvement is baked into the baseline for all future builds.
