Your Team and Role Working on the Web Dependability Engineering team, you'll make sure websites just work in DuckDuckGo's browsers across Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android, helping ensure our users have the best-possible experience browsing with DuckDuckGo. Recent projects include: • Reverse-engineering how sites detect our privacy protections and building countermeasures that keep pages working • Shimming browser APIs so sites work seamlessly across different browser engines and system webviews • Building LLM agent pipelines that automatically reproduce and triage reported site breakage As a Senior Web Compatibility Engineer , you'll be our resident expert on why websites break and how to fix them: owning the webcompat side of our triage process, debugging gnarly issues in code you don't control, distinguishing site bugs from browser bugs from privacy protection-induced breakage, leading the charge when a top site breaks and becomes an incident, shipping durable fixes across every platform, and work on related projects that prevent user churn and keep users coming back to DuckDuckGo. About You • 7+ years of experience building and debugging complex web applications with vanilla JavaScript. • Detailed knowledge of web standards, web components, and browser APIs. Any additional experience with our stack is a bonus: Swift/Kotlin/C#/C++/Python. • Advanced ability to reverse-engineer obfuscated third-party code and reduce issues to minimal test cases. • Passion for hunting elusive bugs and tracing them to their root cause. • Interest in automating repetitive work and building agentic tooling that multiplies the team's impact. • Experience triaging issues, leading incident response, and communicating clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders. • Experience shipping code beyond the web, like native or desktop clients. • Ability to lead complex, ambiguous projects with little to no oversight. Compensation $178,500 USD annually and stock options. Compensation is identical within professional levels , regardless of geographic location or team. Compensation for each professional level is transparent across the organization. Eligibility for company-sponsored health benefits is limited to team members based in the United States. This program does not extend to team members located in other countries, such as Canada or the UK.
