How many points do I need for the German Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte)?
You need 6 points, plus the basic requirements: a degree or at least 2-year vocational qualification recognised in the country that issued it, German at A1 or English at B2, and proof you can support yourself. If your qualification is fully recognised in Germany you qualify without points.
How are Opportunity Card points awarded?
Partial recognition of your qualification 4, 5 of the last 7 years' experience 3 (2 of the last 5: 2), German B2 3 / B1 2 / A2 1, English C1 1, age under 35 2 (35–40: 1), a shortage occupation 1, a previous 6-month stay in Germany 1, and an eligible spouse 1. Can I work while I hold the Opportunity Card?
The card is a job-search permit. It allows limited part-time and trial work while you look for a qualifying job; to stay long-term you switch to a work permit such as the EU Blue Card.
