Frequently asked questions

How can I tell if a job offer with visa sponsorship is a scam?

The biggest warning sign is any request for money — a "processing fee", "visa fee", deposit or payment for a Certificate of Sponsorship. Others: a guaranteed visa, no interview, contact only by WhatsApp or Telegram, a recruiter using a Gmail/Yahoo/Outlook address, and pressure to act within hours.

Do employers charge for visa sponsorship?

Genuine employers do not charge candidates for a job or a visa. In the UK, sponsors must not pass the Certificate of Sponsorship fee or the Immigration Skills Charge on to the worker.

The company is on the sponsor register — does that mean the offer is real?

No. Scammers often impersonate real, licensed companies. A register match only tells you the company can sponsor; contact the company through the details on its official website to confirm the offer is real.

Where do I report a visa or job scam?

In the UK, report fraud to Action Fraud and immigration-related crime to the Home Office. In the US, report to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. If you have paid money, contact your bank straight away.
