About the role

Job Description The Role GM Global Production System (GPS) Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for getting the process right and delivering assembly systems that enable flawless launches at the lowest total enterprise cost. As a Process Engineer supporting transmission and drive unit assembly, you will lead the development, sourcing, build, qualification, installation, and launch of assembly processes and equipment from initial concept through manufacturing implementation. Based at GM’s Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan, you will partner with product engineering, manufacturing operations, execution engineering, maintenance, industrial engineering, plant engineering, throughput simulation, layout, planning, quality, and external suppliers. This role supports prototype builds, new product launches, and continuous improvement across GM manufacturing sites, with occasional travel to GM facilities and supplier locations. What You’ll Do • Analyze product and machinery designs and apply design-for-manufacturability principles to establish the best manufacturing methods. • Define, propose, and evaluate process concepts and equipment for assigned transmission and drive unit assembly areas. • Direct the design, construction, integration, plant installation, qualification, successful launch, and continuous improvement of assembly equipment and tooling. • Lead project-management activities for large or complex transmission and drive unit assembly equipment projects, including scope, timing, expenditures, and budget adherence. • Provide technical direction to and oversight of external equipment and tooling suppliers throughout implementation. • Support prototype builds and collaborate with product engineering to refine product designs, processes, tooling, and equipment for manufacturing. • Implement production manufacturing processes, develop and test advanced process technologies, and contribute to a safe, positive, inclusive, feedback-oriented work environment. Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience. • Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing engineering on the plant floor and design for manufacturability. • Demonstrated success delivering mechanical/manufacturing engineering assignments through individual achievement or strong team-based results. • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment with engineering, operations, maintenance, quality, planning, and supplier partners. • Ability to manage technical projects from process and equipment design through installation, qualification, launch, and continuous improvement. • Ability to monitor project timing and expenditures and support delivery within approved program and equipment budgets. • Willingness to work in a hybrid arrangement based at the GM Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan, with occasional travel to GM sites and supplier locations. What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) • Knowledge of or experience with transmission and drive unit BOP. • Experience leading large assembly-equipment projects or major portions of complex manufacturing programs. • Experience with supplier project implementation, equipment integration, tooling qualification, or advanced process technology development. • Global project experience working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders across multiple regions.
