About the team and the role: eBay, Inc. seeks Applied Researcher 1 in San Jose, CA What you will accomplish: Job Duties: Conduct applied research in machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) to develop innovative solutions for eBay's Global Marketplace. Design, train, and evaluate ML models, including language models, for extracting, summarizing, and transforming unstructured data to knowledge extraction and search functionality. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering and product teams, to integrate cutting-edge machine learning advancements into scalable production systems. Analyze datasets to identify patterns, validate model outputs, and ensure data quality for algorithmic improvements. Stay abreast of advancements in large language models (LLMs) and multimodal learning techniques, applying findings to real-world challenges. Author technical documentation to communicate research outcomes and provide actionable insights. Build and maintain efficient data pipelines for experimental and production-level systems. Participate in industry collaborations and contribute to internal tools for code documentation and knowledge extraction. Explore and prototype novel ML methodologies tailored to eBay’s ecosystem. Maintain project documentation, stay updated on NLP and machine learning advancements, and update the team on the latest developments. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance. What you will bring: Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering or a closely related field. Special Skill Requirements: 1. Machine Learning (ML) / Artificial Intelligence Algorithms 2. Advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) 3. Large Language Models (LLMs) 4. Data Analysis 5. Statistics 6. Python 7. PyTorch or TensorFlow frameworks 8. SQL Salary: $144,991.00-199,200.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. Additional Details Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
