About the role
Here at The Exploration Company, we are building spacecrafts for humanity. Join us as a Project Security Officer, where you’ll be the primary security interface for the Nyx project, connecting Mission Operations with central security functions, engineering teams, suppliers, and external partners. You’ll translate requirements into practical, verifiable controls across our mission systems, working hands-on with engineers, technicians, and operators from concept through operations. Applications at all seniority levels are considered. Key Responsibilities • Act as the single point of contact for security-related topics on the Nyx project. • Translate company policies, customer requirements, regulations, and threat intelligence into project-specific security requirements, architectures, procedures, and verification criteria. • Maintain the integrated project security risk picture across cyber, physical, personnel, supply-chain, export-control, and security-architecture domains. • Flow security requirements into systems, subsystems, suppliers, and operations, and verify their implementation with objective evidence. • Work hands-on with engineers and the security team to implement secure configurations, access controls, segmentation, monitoring, vulnerability remediation, encryption, and other cybersecurity controls. • Support threat modelling, risk assessments, security-by-design, system reviews, supplier assessments, security readiness, and assurance activities throughout the project lifecycle. What we would love to see from you: The ideal candidate will have: • Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. • 3+ years of relevant experience in cybersecurity engineering, systems security, infrastructure security, operational technology, embedded security, project security, or a related hands-on field. • Experience working across multiple technical domains, such as networks, operating systems, applications, communications, embedded systems, hardware, or data centers. • Experience translating security requirements, policies, regulations, or customer expectations into system designs, technical controls, configurations, tests, procedures, and objective evidence. • Experience in security risk management, including risk-based vulnerability prioritization, threat and risk analysis, security testing, incident response, supplier and supply-chain security, and secure system integration. • Practical experience configuring, hardening, troubleshooting, or monitoring real systems—not only reviewing designs or producing documentation. • Ability to integrate cyber, physical, personnel, supply-chain, export-control, and security-architecture considerations into a coherent project-security approach. • Strong communication, organization, project-management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build trust across Corporate IT, engineering, suppliers, central security functions, and Mission Operations. Bonus qualifications: • Experience working with operators in control rooms, mission-control environments, NOCs, SOCs, launch campaigns, test operations, or other time-critical operational settings. • Experience securing spacecraft, launch systems, ground stations, mission-control centers, satellite communications, telemetry systems, or other complex control systems. • Experience integrating security into system design, supplier agreements, procurement, verification, acceptance, and operational readiness. • Familiarity with relevant cybersecurity, space, export-control, or customer frameworks, including NIST CSF, ISO 27001, IEC 62443, ECSS, or applicable national requirements. • Relevant certifications or demonstrated experience with secu
