US H-1B: cap-subject employers enter a lottery weighted by wage level — Level I gets 1 entry, Level IV gets 4 (DHS projected selection odds ≈15% at Level I to ≈61% at Level IV). Universities and non-profit research employers are cap-exempt. The $100,000 fee for new petitions from abroad is currently blocked by a court order (appeal pending).

About the role
We are seeking a talented researcher to join our team and drive innovative research projects in quantum computing, specifically to focus on superconducting quantum device design engineering. You will play a pivotal role in conceiving and developing novel superconducting device architectures, spanning microwave resonators, qubits, readout and coupling architectures, integrated multi-qubit systems, and superconducting interconnects. You will push the performance and scalability of superconducting qubit systems by developing, simulating, and refining device layout designs, working closely with measurement and material scientists to understand material and interface properties and circumvent their limiting effects through targeted design solutions. The successful candidates are expected to be self-driven scientists and engineers, willing to seamlessly switch between different design and simulation techniques, capable of focusing on multiple different device designs and thin film material systems leading to successful development of quantum process development kits (PDKs). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Lead and execute research projects in quantum computing superconducting qubit device design, QPU designs as well packaging level designs required for complex QPU assembly • Design and EM simulation of various superconducting packaging solution: from qubit chiplets assembly with base wafer, to external field shielding solutions. • Collaborate with product teams to tackle novel challenges and develop innovative solutions. • Collaboration: Stay current with industry and academic trends, publishing papers and presenting at conferences. • Reporting: Develop and present detailed reports and visualizations to communicate findings, trends, and actionable insights to stakeholders at all levels. • Motivation: Highly self-motivated problem solver able to thrive in unstructured environment. Ability to independently pursue fundamental research, including paper writing and publishing. • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex data and insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. • Analytical Skills: Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp and address challenges outside of immediate field of expertise. Required: • Ph.D degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science or related • Experience in device nanofabrication challenges, packaging and low temperature characterization of superconducting qubits based devices. This is essential experience needed for new generation of successful designs. • Experience in design and EM simulation of superconducting qubit devices, including designs of QPU chiplets assembly • Other experiences related to other device systems, materials characterization, electronic and optical device characterization are equally important • Proficiency in a wide array of programming languages, like Python, Rust, TCL, or C, and the ability to choose the right one for the task, including knowledge (or willingness to acquire knowledge) of FPGA based microcontrollers WD is committed to providing equal opportunities to all applicants and employees and will not discriminate against any applicant or employee based on their race, color, ancestry, religion (including religious dress and grooming standards), sex (including pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, breastfeeding or related medical conditions), gender (including a person’s gender identity, gender expression, and gender-related appearance and behavior, whether or not stereotypically associated with the person’s assigned sex at birth), age, national origin, sexual orientation, medical condition, marital status (including domestic partn
