About the role

About Redwood Materials Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 by JB Straubel, co-founder and former CTO of Tesla, on a simple but radical idea: the critical minerals powering the energy transition already exist. They just need to come back. Today Redwood is the largest lithium-ion battery recycler in North America — recovering, refining, and redeploying critical minerals from end-of-life batteries back into the supply chain. On the energy side, Redwood has deployed the largest second-life battery project in the world, delivering power to AI data centers in months rather than years using proprietary energy architecture engineered entirely in-house. The company is profitable, the market it operates in is projected to grow 20 to 50 times over the next decade, and Redwood is the only company with the supply chain, the technology, and the operational scale to lead it. Position Summary: We are currently seeking a Senior Manager of Commissioning to join our Engineering, Procurement, & Construction (EPC) team. This EPC role is at the center of Redwood’s mission focused on creating a sustainable circular economy for lithium-ion batteries by providing second-life for batteries and ultimately recycling to return to future battery production. The Commissioning Manager will work closely with members of the project management, infrastructure engineering, project controls and procurement departments from preconstruction through completion and start of production. The Commissioning Manager will manage all on-site infrastructure commissioning scopes including electrical, mechanical, controls, fire systems, etc.  These responsibilities around commissioning will include scheduling of trade contractors, utility, structure, and vendor tool installations, resolving day to day commissioning challenges, performing day to day inspections to ensure compliance with plans and specifications while tracking project and commissioning schedule. The Commissioning Manager will also be responsible for coordinating testing and commissioning among all project stakeholders both internal to Redwood (facilities, operations, maintenance, infrastructure & process engineering) and external (clients, trade subcontractors & vendors/suppliers). The Commissioning Manager is also responsible for helping grow and administer a commissioning program for the EPC group.  Commissioning experience with BESS, solar, large manufacturing, refining, wastewater/water treatment, and/or large MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems is preferred.  Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Lead development of commissioning program elements to standardize the execution of Redwood project commissioning and ensure delivery of high-quality infrastructure to the end users. E.g. Cx execution plan, systemization strategy, commissioning logic sequences, standards for cleaning and inspections, first fills/lubrication schedules, mobilization and staffing plan, checklists, commissioning procedures, etc. • Manages all aspects of the EPC commissioning program, including commissioning agents, stakeholder coordination, and successful start-up and turnover of systems and project equipment to end users. • Participates in design reviews to assess and comment on aspects of systems for commissioning. E.g. valve/shunt placement for staged startup and flushing operations. • Manages the chosen completions management system to organize and effectively track completion of all project equipment and systems. • Develops and manages the commissioning schedule, budget, stakeholder coordination, commissioning agents, and other resources needed to commission project equipment & systems. • Assesses initial project contract and supporting documents for completeness. Works with designers and subcontractors to re
