US H-1B: cap-subject employers enter a lottery weighted by wage level — Level I gets 1 entry, Level IV gets 4 (DHS projected selection odds ≈15% at Level I to ≈61% at Level IV). Universities and non-profit research employers are cap-exempt. The $100,000 fee for new petitions from abroad is currently blocked by a court order (appeal pending).

About the role

Job Description At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.   Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale. The Role AVD Chassis Design Release Engineer The Advanced Vehicle Development (AVD) team has multiple Design Release Engineer (DRE) openings. Candidates with experience in Brakes, Tire/Wheel Systems (TWS), Fuel, Mounts, Induction, or Exhaust may be a strong fit for this opportunity. The AVD DRE serves as the Design Release Engineer during the advanced development phase for passenger vehicles and light trucks. The DRE leads subsystem development from initial vehicle architecture and concept design through cost estimation, structural analysis (FEA), performance assessment, and delivery of a sourcing-ready design. Candidates must be able to review and evaluate designs and packaging in Teamcenter and work closely with designers and cross-functional partners to develop manufacturing-feasible solutions. During the early phases of vehicle development, the DRE is responsible for guiding the team toward balanced subsystem designs that optimize cost, mass, manufacturability, assembly, durability, and vehicle performance. This role requires strong technical judgment, collaboration skills, and the ability to drive design decisions in a fast-paced advanced development environment. What You'll Do - Develop engineering subsystem solutions for new vehicle programs. - Start with a “clean sheet” approach to engineer detailed, balanced system solutions. - Lead physical integration, packaging, and functional integration work, including performance assessments and trade-off negotiations across competing components and requirements. - Perform competitive benchmarking for performance, cost, mass, and related attributes. - Conduct detailed Health of the Parent reviews to ensure lessons learned and prior program issues are addressed in new designs. - Collaborate daily with Chassis Engineers and key cross-functional partners, including Design, CAE, Design Studio, Vehicle Architecture, Purchasing, Cost Estimating, Performance Integration, Manufacturing, Service Engineering, Body, Powertrain, Electrical, and other commodity teams, to develop the optimal overall vehicle solution. - Work with designers to ensure CAD data in Unigraphics and Teamcenter is updated regularly; depending on capability, this may include direct CAD updates by the engineering candidate. - Develop and refine solution imperatives, including piece cost, tooling, mass, quality, performance, and related design objectives, and report status to leadership as required. - Support early physical mock-up or hardware test activities using 3D-printed parts or other simulated hardware, as needed. - Lead DFSS or other projects to refine customer requirements and improve design robustness. - Lead subsystem DFMEA activities. - Collaborate with downstream Design Release Engineers to support successful sourcing and validation of components and systems for production. - Collaborate with component technical specialists to ensure GM component and system strategies are correctly implemented on new programs. - Partner with CAE engineers to assess system performance against requirements and iterate toward an optimized design. - Create and lead detailed technical peer reviews to ensure best practices and lessons learned are implemented
